Newmarket 2.15
A really open race with a few of these needing to prove themselves in conditions. AZURE BLUE looks the solid option as not only does she go well on all ground types she won 3 times last season over course and distance which makes her a big player here. She has won 3 of her last 4 starts and if ready to roll for the season is the one to beat.
Heredia is a horse I have always followed and whilst I think she has the class to win this 6 furlongs might not fully suit here. There are other massive players in Gale Force Maya who the selection beat last season and Perdika who has fitness on side and form that would see her bang there at the finish.
Arguably the toughest race of the day at Newmarket so it won’t surprise you that I’ve backed 3 against the field at double-figure prices. I thought PROBE would run well for Jennie Candlish. He made a winning start for this yard at Wolverhampton and then only went down a length over C&D last month with a few of these in behind. He runs off the same mark and has plenty going for him once more.
The likeable CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD was third behind the latter last time and also finished third in this race last year off a 6lb higher mark. He has first-time cheekpieces and he looks massively overpriced at 16/1! ABOVE was second in this last year in front of the latter and which he is out of form it would be no surprise to see him bounce back with a big run in this.
Goodwood 3.05
This looks like a deep renewal and with it hard to rule any of these out an each way play on BAD COMPANY looks a solid bet. He has two runs under his belt already this season with a nice win at Epsom last time. He clearly stepped forward for his comeback run and the Epsom win should leave him spot on for this and he has to go close carrying just 2lb more.
Aussie Banker will be a live danger if improving for the step up in trip but still has to do it on turf with all his recent form on the all-weather. The favourite at the time of writing is Maghlaak who looks a promising type for Charlie Hills and if improving over the winter he will be a big player at this level and beyond.
Newmarket 3.25
I like two against the field in this and both at decent prices. My main play is MAJESTIC for Jack Channon. I thought he ran an eye-catching race when fourth in the Lincoln and given his last run over this trip resulted in a win I think he could run a big race here off the same mark. He is around 9/1 at the time of writing and could easily turn into one of the gambles of the day as I can’t see him out the frame at the minimum.
The other one I’m backing is TURNTABLE who is actually eyeing up a hat-trick of wins. He has since changed yards but 5lb higher if in the same form should run a big race. That form with Bad Company has worked out well and with Kaiya Fraser retaining the partnership and claiming 7lb he ticks a lot of boxes. Jimi Hendrix showed a good attitude to win readily at Newbury and would be a danger to all if backing that up here.
Thirsk 3.40
I doubt they’ll be too many hiding places in the Thirsk Hunt Cup and it can be a hard race to call with 14/1, 18/1 and 66/1 winners in the last 3 years. I’m backing two (story of the day) with my main hope being SYMBOLIZE who is a course winner and he had a nice prep for this race to finish fourth behind Spycatcher last month. He has been dropped a couple of pounds and it is no surprise to see him being nibbled at in the betting.
The other one I like is EILEAN DUBH for Karl Burke. This horse won 3 of his last 4 starts last season and while he hasn’t shown much in two starts this term this would have been the target and I think he’ll go close off a mark of 94. It would be no surprise to see him well backed on the day as 16/1 seems a bit insulting if you are in a forgivable nature.
Newmarket 4.00
I’m looking forward to seeing TWILIGHT CALLS in the Palace House at Newmarket on Saturday. This Twilight Son gelding has won first time out for the last two seasons including over C&D last year so goes particularly well fresh. He didn’t do much wrong last season last seen chasing home Nature Strip in the King’s Stand Stakes. He is open to further improvement as a 5yo and could be one to follow this season with this a nice starting point.
Manaccan is a big flashy type who also ended last season on the up winning 4 of his last 6 starts. He is a big danger but his best form is on a fast surface so I don’t think he’d want much rain. Of the rest Raasel is likeable and he could be set for another profitable campaign for connections. He is a double-figure price in here so might be worth an each way saver as I can see him running well.
Newmarket 4.40
With proven form over a mile I make AUGUSTE RODIN hard to beat in the Guineas. Aidan O’Brien has won 3 of the last 6 renewals and this son of Deep Impact is the pick of stable number one jockey Ryan Moore. He was improving all the time when last seen and was impressive in the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster on final start. If the rain comes that would only help his chance further and I expect him to be finishing best.
Stablemate Little Big Bear should run well but I’d have my worry over him seeing out the final furlong as well as the selection and he could help set it up for him. Chaldean unseated Frankie Dettori out the gate in the Greenham and I think it’s a worry that he lacks a run. Royal Scotsman might be able to reverse the form with the latter trying a mile for the first time.
ITV Racing Double
My NAP (best bet) runs in the Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday and I’ve doubled it with my Notebook as they look decent value when backed together. Pays 10/1!

A Super Saturday ahead so with 7 races live on ITV I have taken four bets and combined them to make a Lucky 15. If we can hit 3/4 winners we will make some really nice profit. Pays 6,500/1!
