York 1.50

William Haggas has won this for the last two years with Ilaraab and Gaassee so no surprise to see La Yakel popular and while I do respect him there could be value in opposing. I like the chances of REAL DREAM for Sir Michael Stoute. It could be a big day at York for the yard with Infinite Cosmos in the Musidora later too. This son of Lope De Vega capped off last season with an eye-catching win from off the pace at Doncaster up to a mile and a half for the first time.

He cut through the pack late and went through the line strong. He had a wind op over the winter and returned with another victory this time on handicap debut at Kempton. He probably raced further forward than ideal but stayed on strongly and was nicely on top at the finish. This big field will suit as it will help him get cover and as long as he gets the gaps he should be the one picking up best in the closing stages.

Newton Abbot 2.05

This looks a very competitive race with four at the head of the market all with the recent form to go close. INFERNO SACREE gets a tentative vote after he has flown up through the handicap ranks over the last 6 months. He recently won again easily at Plumpton which saw his largest rise at the weights for a while but he could still be well handicapped. This will be his biggest test so far but I still feel he is the one to beat.

I like that Monjules had a recent run on the Flat to keep his handicap mark down for this race and he is the likely main danger with recent form over hurdles of 1st, 1st and 2nd. Of the rest Swinging London who has gone well on his last two runs and Polyphonic who finished second on his last two runs are both likely players with the latter having scope for plenty more.

Newton Abbot 2.05

Inferno Sacree 9/2

York 2.25

A fiercely competitive handicap so I’ve taken two against the field. GIS A SUB chased home Lusail in the Gimcrack as a 2yo and while he hasn’t really fired since pitched into handicap company I didn’t think he shaped that badly when eighth at Newmarket on reappearance and off a 2lb lower mark at a track we know suits him better I think he could surprise a few here at around 16/1 at the time of writing.

Another horse at a big price that has run well at the track is the likeable LETHAL LEVI and while he needs to bounce back he won second time out last season so plenty of improvement can be expected off a 2lb lower mark. Tons of dangers including the old boy Dakota Gold and Ayr Gold Cup winner Bielsa who looks off a workable mark.

York 3.00

It is great to see HIGHFIELD PRINCESS back after a spectacular season last year with three Group 1 wins to her name. She won this race last season on her way to those bigger and better successes. This year she has started a bit later likely with those Group 1s in mind so it will be interesting to see how fit they have her. She carries a penalty for her wins last year so I would expect John Quinn to have her ready to roll and she has to be the one to beat.

Creative Force would be a massive danger if backing up so soon after a nice win at Haydock on Saturday. He just fell short plenty last year but at his best would be a threat. Emaraaty Ana is hard to catch right but did actually finish ahead of the two mentioned horses in the Breeders’ Cup so could run a big race if fully fit. Of the rest Marshman could have a lot more to come and prove best of the rest.

York 3.35

The well bred INFINITE COSMOS was still learning on the job when winning at Newmarket on return. I loved the way she stretched out once she hit the rising ground and she almost certainly has further improvement to come. She is strengthening up all the time and I expect her to win this en route to the Oaks at Epsom next month.

Lope De Vega filly Novakai ran a cracker when last seen going down just a length to Commissioning in the bet365 Fillies’ Mile and if she can match that sort of form on return she should finish second.

York 4.10

In an open race I am having two each way bets against the field with COCO JACK an eye-catcher dropping down the handicap and back down in trip. His best form is over 7 furlongs so far which includes a close third at the track last year. He isn’t running badly with his last run behind a useful sort in Racingbreaks Ryder but I do think he just needs 7 furlongs for now and could be overlooked at the prices based on on his form at a mile.

CATCH THE PADDY looked a smart horse over 6 furlongs last season and I do think we could see more to come this year. The step up to 7 furlongs isn’t guaranteed to suit but with form already in the book at York I think he is a live player with a lot more on offer as the season goes on. Chuzzlewit and Ramazan appear the main dangers but are half the price of the selections who I think are decent value.

York 4.45

Mashadi is the only colt in the field that has seen a racecourse and he’d have to be respected but I’m going to take a chance on THE CARIBBEAN for Aidan O’Brien. Thos No Nay Never colt is a half-brother to multiple winners including Roman Empire and Star Of India and while he has been a bit uneasy in the betting he must still be worthy of serious consideration given connections.

Kylian has been heavily punted for Karl Burke and with the yard doing so well with juveniles he’d have to be of obvious interest as well. Definitely trackers at the ready as it should throw up plenty of promising horses. I’m quite interested to see how Barnaby runs too.

York 5.15

In a really wide open race with a maximum field of 20 likely to line up I think I have found a solid each way bet at a big price. BILLY NO MATES looks like he is coming back to form whilst dropping down the handicap. He is now off 77 which is 1lb higher than his last winning mark and with a couple of runs to get him fit under his belt I really do think he will outrun his odds. He has gone well at York before and this looks a good race for him.

The favourite at the time of writing is Paris Lights who you would think will fair better over this longer trip and rates the main danger. Vega Sicilia is never far away at this trip and won’t be far away based on his run at Salisbury last time out. Back on quicker ground Heathen could bounce back and prove best of the rest in another open race.
