The way PERSIAN DREAMER came there going strongly on the outside at Newmarket on debut really was quite taking and then to stretch away and win virtually on the bridle created a big impression. She is quite a sizeable filly so there is plenty of scope for further improvement and she is very much one to keep on side with Royal Ascot on the radar next month.
I think the market has this right with Got To Love A Grey the biggest danger. She is well related and seemed to be learning on the job on debut at Nottingham before going clear. This is tougher but she should improve and put up the most resistance.
The top 3 in the market at the time of writing all raced each other over course and distance already this season with Mustazeed the winner that day. TUXEDO JUNCTION is better off at the weights here and I think can reverse the form. He will be much better for the run and on quicker ground as well. He seems to like Newbury with two runs here finishing second the run before and he should run a big race at an each way price.
Mustazeed is the main danger as he beat the selection and Time Interval on seasonal and yard debut and likely has more to come despite the 6lb rise. Time Interval has won since and is no better off at the weights than his rivals. Of the rest Solanna for John Butler could be a big price looking for his hat-trick here.

I was really quite taken with that winning debut from QUEEN FOR YOU and given she holds a Group 1 entry in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot next month connections will be hoping she can keep her unbeaten record in tact here. She is superbly bred being by Kingman out of Fallen For You and quickened up like an exciting prospect to make a perfect start at Ascot at the start of the month. I loved the way she asserted once she realised she was in a race and she will leave that bare form behind now stepping into better company.
They will go a good gallop here and I can only see that suiting her better as she seems to have a high cruising speed and is equipped with a smart change of gear so clearly a really promising filly in the making. Silver Lady also overcame greenness to make a winning start at Newmarket last month and with more to come she should threaten.
York 3.00
In a competitive race there doesn’t look to be that many really unexposed horses other than NOBEL. Andrew Balding’s colt looked a horse to follow after two novice wins but he then stepped up to Listed level and blew out after running so free. He has now had a wind-op and wears a tongue-tie for the first time which should see him run his race. If back to the form of his first two wins he is likely a lot better than a 90 rated horse and the one to beat.
Eeetee is a big danger for David O’Meara who always does well at York. He won nicely on his return to the track and goes very well here at York. Of the rest Spirit Dancer has the form to be in the mix if fit enough on seasonal debut and Moktassab down in trip should also be noted in the betting.
York 3.35
A very different looking Yorkshire Cup this year without the legend that is Stradivarius. I like the chances of ELDAR ELDAROV who very much remains unexposed after just 6 runs. He looked a thorough stayer getting the better of New London in the St Leger and I’m happy to put a line through that run at Ascot on Champions Day where he failed to land a blow. He goes well fresh and with further improvement to come this season he could surprise a few here.
Quickthorn beat Coltrane in the Lonsdale Cup at this track last year which is obviously red-hot form and he looks a threat to all if putting that run in Dubai behind him. At a massive price Giavellotto was only three-quarters of a length behind the selection in the St Leger and if he strips fitter from that run in Dubai back in March he could grab a place.
York 4.10
There was quite a bit of money for KATHAB on debut at Newmarket last month and he ran an eye-catching race beaten 3 lengths by Passenger. He ran green in the early stages but I thought the penny dropped late and he stayed on nicely to chase the winner in the closing stages. He will improve from that initial effort and I’m expecting him to be hard to beat now.
This won’t be easy though as Mostabshir looked exciting himself winning by 4 lengths on debut as a 2yo. He folded a bit tamely on reappearance in the Craven though and that has me a bit concerned. If he comes on for the run he will threaten but a bit to prove.
York 4.45
This looks wide open to me so I’m keen to look away from the top of the market and ASCOT ADVENTURE makes plenty of each way appeal. This son of Mayson left Clive Cox and is now with David O’Meara and undoubtedly would have needed the outing when fifth at Doncaster so I thought that was an encouraging return. He will be spot on for this now and off a 2lb lower mark should run a big race.
Given the nature of the race and the extra places available I’m also backing ATASER at a price. He is drawn in the car park but I expect him to leave that reappearance run at Newbury behind. The move back up in trip coupled with the better ground will help and he could be well handicapped as a result. Plenty of dangers likely headed by It Just Takes Time who was impressive at Thirsk and should have every chance under a 5lb penalty back up to 7f here.
York 5.15
We have a maximum field of 22 for this seriously competitive sprint so I have had two bets in here with RHYTHM N HOOVES the main selection. He has improved a lot with each run and is a tad unlucky not to be unbeaten in his 3 starts. The win at Chelmsford last time was impressive and if he can apply that form on turf he can make a bold bid for his hat-trick.
Alice Haynes has been in cracking form and SHE’S CENTIMENTAL is a big improver for her winning her last three. She was last seen beating a horse called Cruise who has won easily since and off a mark of 82. She is a big player at an each way price. Winter Crown is my idea of the main danger with form of 1st, 2nd, 2nd on his last 3 runs and is still only rated 73 which may underestimate him. Spartan Arrow is the other one who could be a big threat after the drop in trip saw a big improvement and is worth a second look on handicap debut.
