Even with a fairly small field for the size this event has usually attracted in the past it is still so competitive. I am going down the same route as earlier in the week with a previous winner with a similar profile to Lord Riddleford. MANY A STAR won this last year after coming into the race off a couple of poor runs. That means his handicap mark is actually 2lb lower than last year. He seems a big price for a horse who won this last year and seems a good each way bet.
Zaman Jemil is favourite at the time of writing and has the form to go very close even up an extra 6lb. That said I think Monsieur Kodi will be better suited by conditions and rates the main danger in a good field of sprinters.
Visually I was quite taken with how Tierney won at Haydock but she has been hit with a 7lb rise and the runner-up Je Ne Sais Quoi has run really poorly since which would be a concern. I’m going to side with SAY HELLO instead. She also took a big step forward to make a winning handicap debut over C&D last week and while 13lb seems a lot it is fully warranted given how impressive that was. If the blinkers work again she will take a lot of pegging back.
The danger could be Snafiya as the betting is suggesting. She arrives on a hat-trick now and is progressing well by the looks of it. Her opening mark of 83 seems fair and I think she’ll run her race. Saxon Warrior filly Lady Wulfrun is another one to consider if stepping forward again on what we’ve seen so far.
Goodwood 2.25
A horse I have followed this season SWEET WILLIAM I am sure is a Group horse in handicaps and has a great chance again here. He has won his last two with such ease and as a result has gone up 7lb. He seems versatile regarding trip and he should go very well in this before contesting potentially the Ebor and then Group races in the future.
Adjuvant and HMS President both have the form in these conditions to give the selection something to think about. At a much bigger price Mr Curiosity could be best of the rest after a nice run on soft ground at Ripon last time.
Newmarket (July) 2.40
Amusement is down in class here and sets the standard but she is short enough in the betting and something is telling me to oppose. I prefer SUNSET POINT who took another step forward to win at Ascot last month and that form has been strongly franked since with the third There’s The Door winning a competitive handicap at Glorious Goodwood earlier this week. She is by Dubawi and has more to offer yet so could surprise the favourite.
Of the rest Sweet Memories impressed winning at Newbury a couple of weeks ago and it is no surprise to see her thrown in at the deep end here as she also possesses a fair bit of potential. Spring Fever could also run well so you can see why I think the favourite might be a bit short at around 13/8 at the time of writing.
Goodwood 3.00
It looks at though FREE WIND has found the perfect race to get her winning streak going again after losing out at Royal Ascot. Prior to that she won 4 in a row with 3 of those wins at this level. She handles soft ground and I think it would take something special to beat her.
The rest have at least 7lb to find on ratings with River Of Stars the likely danger after a good run in France last time and her yard are flying. Of the rest Time Lock could be better on softer ground and run a better race than last time.
Goodwood 3.35
I know the gamble wasn’t landed for ORAZIO at Royal Ascot but he looked really progressive prior to that and he had excuses with the quick ground probably far from ideal. Back on a slower surface I think we’ll see a much more polished performance and he is taken to resume his progress now.
Bielsa was back to his best winning at York back in May but did finish a bit tamely in the Wokingham where he was also behind Orazio. Apollo One has finished 322 on his last three starts and is another one that is expected to get competitive. Of the rest King’s Lynn is another one likely to be suited by the ground so while he hasn’t been at his best the last twice he could be another one that shows up much better here.
Goodwood 4.10
I try to avoid horses backing up so quickly but SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT looks a solid bet in this race even though she ran at the meeting earlier this week. She is in the form of her life as she showed on Tuesday and up in trip she has a great chance again.
New Business has good form to his name and is unexposed so you have to fear him a bit. He could really step forward again here and Ryan Moore booked to ride he is the danger without a doubt. Chartwell House could prove best of the rest.
Goodwood 4.45
A field of 14 head to post for this but only 4 have raced before. Of those I like DEVIL’S POINT the most for David Menuisier. This New Bay colt was only actually beaten a length and a half on debut at Sandown and given he was slowly into stride that wasn’t a bad effort at all. He will step forward from that now and could be a nice prospect.
Likely plenty of dangers in a race of this nature and of the other 3 that have experience Too Darn Hot colt Individualism stands out. He was beaten less than a length on debut at Ayr and should know more this time around. Of the debutants Stratocracy looks the most interesting especially as he holds a Group 2 entry.
Goodwood 5.20
The finale of Glorious Goodwood sees a horse whose form has been working out really well run in ONE STEP BEYOND. A lot of good form lines tie in with his race he won easily last time and I really fancy him even in this maximum field to go very well again up just 6lb.
Mostawaa comes into this off 3 wins and is improving all the time. He will be a danger to all his rivals along with Liberty Lane for the in-form Karl Burke yard.
