Chepstow 5.30

We kick off The Racing League at Chepstow on Thursday night with arguably the most competitive race of the evening. I’m going to chance HARTSWOOD each way at around 10/1 at the time of writing. This son of Garswood made a winning return at Thirsk back in May and then freshened up was only beaten a length and a half off a 4lb higher mark at Pontefract. He ran well again when second to Tele Red which is solid form for the level and he should still be competitive off the same mark here.

Sun King was denied less than a length at Yarmouth last month and that is solid form with Shahbaz involved so I think he is the danger. Cabinet Of Clowns has first-time blinkers and might be a bit overpriced but this is definitely wide open.

I have backed CHINESE KNOT the last twice and I thought she was impressive at Yarmouth last time. She was always getting up under a confident ride from Saffie Osborne and the fact she only won by a neck means she has only gone up 5lb in the handicap. She is open to further improvement with the step up to 6f likely to be a big positive given the way she has shaped the last twice.

Band Of Joy will go a good clip so she should have a nice target to aim at and I can’t see granted usual luck in-running how she doesn’t get there in the closing stages. Band Of Joy is obviously plenty talented as well but she had a hard race when second at Beverley last time and this might come soon enough. Eminny won at Beverley and Leicester before flopping at Listed level latest. This is easier but she has a bit to prove.

Saffie Osborne seems to be making The Racing League her own and she has another good ride in the shape of EXECUTIVE DECISION here. This filly by Ardad ran a cracker on reappearance (and stable debut) when fifth at Royal Ascot and then backed that up finishing in the same position behind Quinault at Newmarket. She stepped forward to beat a very good yardstick in Sophia’s Starlight at Goodwood and even carrying a penalty she looks the one to beat. She is unexposed and has plenty going for her.

Ramiro beat Music Society to win at Ayr last month and then was a good third at Yarmouth. He is clearly in good form so back down in trip is getting away on terms will be a danger. Hot Chesnut is a good looking mare and the drop back down to 6f could suit and see her get competitive as well.

I thought SHAHBAZ was unlucky not to get his head back in front at Yarmouth last month. He was closing all the way to the line so this step back up to a mile and a quarter looks ideal now. He remains unexposed so should still be improving and granted a clearer passage through racing off the same mark he looks to have a great opportunity.

Kingman filly Totnes was back to winning ways at Chelmsford last time. She impressed on that occasion so even up 7lb I still expect her to be the biggest danger. Of the rest Australia colt Gordon Grey seems to be going the right way and is another one to note.

Shahbaz 3/1

I have been following MAJESTIC for most of the season and he hasn’t had the best luck. He caught the eye beaten just a length at York and then bumped into a rejuvenated Cadillac at Epsom with the front 3 clear and the field well strung out. I thought he got too far back before running on well at Sandown and then he just wasn’t at the races when down the field at York. Given a bit of time since and dropped in grade it would be no surprise to see him bounce back.

Dancing In Paris has been very consistent and was a good third behind the promising Balance Play at Glorious Goodwood last week. If he is in the same form and that hasn’t left a mark he could run well again. At a bigger price Pledge Of Honour might be a bit of value to hit the frame.

Majestic 7/2

Chepstow 8.00

Manila Scouse has pressing claims here after deservedly getting back to winning ways at Haydock last weekend. He escapes a penalty seeing as that was an apprentice event so should run well but his price offers little value. STONE CIRCLE is a much bigger price and he also comes here with confidence high after getting his head back in front at Yarmouth last month. He was switched off by Saffie Osborne but cut through the pack once asked and did well to get on top late on.

He won over this C&D this time last year and up just 3lb should give another good account. With the likes of Grace Angel and Just Glamorous lining up this should be run at a good gallop and that is another notable positive for the selection. Kimngrace should come on for that Ascot run last month and is another one to note.

Chepstow 8.30

A tricky puzzle to solve in the finale but I do like the chances of SAXON KING at decent odds. He is a well built colt who won 2 of his first 3 starts this season before finishing down the field behind Docklands in the Britannia. He was back to form when fifth to Dutch Decoy at Newmarket last month and back down to 7f should give a good account.

Fools Rush In hasn’t won for a while but he also showed up better when fifth behind Baradar at Ascot last month. This test should suit and I can see him being in the mix. Able Kane is another one who could run well if fully applying himself as he can be a tricky ride sometimes but at least has a handy 5lb claimer booked.
