Newmarket 1.50

Unbeaten colt GHOSTWRITER may well be up to landing the hat-trick here. This Invincible Spirit colt made a bright start winning on debut at Newmarket and then improved to win comfortably at Ascot. That performance was backed up by a decent speed figure and if progressing again stepping up in grade he may well prove up to the task.

Obviously this is a good race so plenty of dangers. Capulet won on debut and then finished just half a length back in second behind Diego Velazquez at Leopardstown last time. That is very good form so he should threaten. Of the rest Dubawi colt Aablan is also 2-2 and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Baez kept pulling out more to complete the four-timer here a fortnight ago and she could run well but she is out the weights here and might struggle to hold off TASHKHAN. The latter is a classy type who was last seen finishing down the field in the Ebor. He has some good form to his name though and if bouncing back in this lesser company should run a cracker.

Zealandia won well at Goodwood last time and up 4lb might be the danger if in the same form with cheekpieces back on. Yorkindness is also thriving and he is only 2lb higher so he should also get competitive.

It is a shame we have lost Relief Rally as she would have taken an awful lot of beating. With her out it looks a good chance for French raider JASNA’S SECRET to remain unbeaten. She won well on debut in a race that has worked out notably well since and then she followed up convincingly last time. She can improve again and with Soumillon here instead of at Longchamp she looks the one to beat.

Cherry Blossom is a very solid filly and I expect her to run her race again which might be good enough to finish second. Sacred Angel was fourth behind Vandeek in France last time and must also enter calculations along with Soprano who was unlucky last time.

I’m fairly confident PROVERB can strike off a mark of just 97. He fared best of those held up when fifth at York last time and if building on that racing off the same mark should have a great chance to get back in the winners enclosure. He remains lightly raced and has only had a few starts in handicaps so could prove a cut above these.

Manila Scouse went down just half a length into third at York last week and given he has proved effective over this C&D he could definitely be a player in this if it doesn’t come too soon. Silky Wilkie has held his form well since winning the Scottish Sprint Cup and is also feared back in handicap company.

The Middle Park is always a race I look forward to and this year is no different with VANDEEK putting his unbeaten record on the line. This colt has gone from strength to strength following up his debut win with victory in the Richmond at Glorious Goodwood. He then went over to France where he got up in the final stride to win the Prix Morny. He still doesn’t look the finished article so can improve again and looks the one they all have to beat.

River Tiber was behind the selection over in France last time so has work to do to close that gap let alone reverse that form. He was only beaten a couple of lengths though so should make a race of it. Jasour was impressive at Newmarket but also looks held on that last run.

This could easily be the ‘Group horse in a handicap’ as GREEK ORDER was really impressive at Newbury last month. He was keen enough in the early stages but cantered into the race before finding himself in front and staying on strongly through the line. He has gone up 10lb for that but couldn’t have done it any easier and I can see this big field suiting as Oisin Murphy should be able to get decent cover before letting him loose. In such a competitive race you will need luck when coming through but he has a good draw being high and seems to have plenty of pace around him which is another notable plus.

Astro King is burdened with top-weight but shouldn’t be underestimated and could run well and also Saga is well suited by this sort of test and should also be bang there.
