Haydock 1.30
Back up in trip FAMOUS BRIDGE was much happier staying on strongly to beat Credo by a length over C&D last month. He has gone up 6lb for that but remains largely unexposed as a stayer over fences so with more to come I expect him to confirm that form here. He is versatile regarding the ground and looks to have plenty going for him again.
Credo was given a patient ride last time and ran on all the way to the line so looks the danger again 3lb better off at the weights. Enqarde is a dour stayer and saw it out well to win at Warwick following a wind op. He will also probably get competitive again.
Haydock 2.05
Things didn’t go to plan for BUBBLE DUBI on chase debut at Uttoxeter back in October. He was heavily backed on that occasion but looked to need the experience and just made too many mistakes to get competitive. That form has worked out well though and he was much better when third at Huntingdon last month. With more to come again he should be going close.
Risk D’argent is down the bottom of the weights and he warmed up for this with a decent spin over hurdles finishing second at Warwick. Back over fences he could emerge as the danger. Goobinator is also worth a second look having won on the Flat latest.
Ascot 2.25
West Balboa has impressed winning her last 3 over hurdles but she did only beat 2 rivals at Aintree last time and two hurdles in the home straight were omitted so it might not be the strongest form. This is obviously tougher and she might be opposable. I prefer CRAMBO as he won in good style at Aintree and then was given too much to do behind Slate Lane at Haydock. He is definitely on an upward curve.
Champ returns following a wind op and obviously on his best form he is a danger to all. He was also victorious when last seen at this track so a decent run can be expected. Paisley Park won this last year and I’d like to see him run well again.
Ascot 3.00
I do fear Blackjack Magic here as he impressed beating Real Stone at Uttoxeter and then followed up on return beating Threeunderthrufive. Those are both strong form and he will go well but on value grounds FLASH COLLONGES might be worth chancing at a double-figure price. He impressed beating Sam Barton at Newbury and then fell in the Scottish National. He remains lightly raced and could surprise a few.
Victtorino sprung a 20/1 upset at this track last month and with Venetia Williams going so well he is another one that must enter calculations. A 4lb rise in deeper company doesn’t make life easy though. Git Maker has confidence high and is also noted.
Ascot 3.35
This is fiercely competitive as you’d expect but I do like ALTOBELLI against the favourite. I thought he was a big eye-catcher chasing home Knickerbockerglory on seasonal reappearance over C&D last month and with that under his belt off just a 1lb higher mark he should be going close. He remains completely unexposed and could be a horse to keep on the right side of today and going forward as well.
He’ll likely be ridden quietly along with the fav Iberico Lord so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were the pair who come through late to fight it out. Of the rest top-weight Hansard showed a good attitude to beat Bad at Newbury and is another one who shouldn’t be ruled out.
