Leopardstown 1.10
It’s a shame we didn’t get GAELIC WARRIOR vs Marine Nationale but this could still deliver with Fact To File opposing. The pair are equally as exciting but I have to side with Rich Ricci’s 6yo. He has been faultless since going chasing bolting up at Punchestown before following up impressively at Limerick. This horse has a monstrous engine and should complete the hat-trick.
Fact To File is a horse I like as well and he is certainly going the right way now. He won head in chest at this track last time and will go on improving as he gains more experience. Not just a two-horse race either with Grangeclare West thrashing Corbetts Cross last time which is solid form. Can’t wait for this one!
The unbeaten son of Cracksman LIARI should be hard to beat here. He showed a good attitude to prevail on hurdles debut at Wincanton before following up impressively in testing conditions at Aintree when last seen. This is tougher again but he is clearly quite an exciting horse and looks worth keeping on side for now. The yard seem to have hit a purple patch as well and he clearly has plenty going for him.
An Bradan Feast has won 2 from 3 and looks the most obvious danger. He chased home Burdett Road at Cheltenham and then beat Balboa 3 lengths last time so the form all stacks up. Roaring Legend perhaps best of the rest but does need to improve to get involved.
Leopardstown 1.40
I loved everything about that win from BALLYBURN at this track last time and I think he is one of the most exciting novices around. He is sure to keep improving with experience and I fully expect him to win this before having a crack at the 2 and a half mile novice race at the Cheltenham Festival next month. I actually make him my bet of the Festival so I’m hoping he gets the job done here.
Farren Glory was obviously still cruising before coming down at Aintree last time and looks the obvious danger granted a clear round of jumping. Slade Steel and King Of Kingsfield are both talented and come here with confidence high so shouldn’t be ignored either.
Musselburgh 1.50
Paul Nicholls could be set for a good day and BEAU BALKO looks another great chance for his team to get a winner. He has bumped into Tritonic and Chanceux the last twice and he won’t need much more to go one better in this. He is still unexposed especially over fences so should keep improving for a while yet.
Cedar Hill fell here last time but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him bounce back quickly here so he should run well. Mint Gold also took a tumble last time but is another one I have on my radar and could bounce back and run well.
Leopardstown 2.10
This isn’t a given as there are some nice horses in opposition but even so EL FABIOLO has to be the one to beat here. He was a perfect 4-4 over fences last season including a 10-length romp here last year. He returned with a convincing win at Cork back in December and with more to come should extend his winning sequence.
Dinoblue capped off last season with wins at Fairyhouse and Punchestown and has picked up where she left off winning at Naas and at this track last time. She is thoroughly likeable and should chase the jolly home.
Musselburgh 2.25
This is one of the more competitive races of the day and HYPOTENUS catches the eye with Keith Donoghue over to ride for Gavin Cromwell. This 5yo finished third behind Risk Belle at Fairyhouse and that looks decent form in the context of this race. He is lightly raced so could easily improve again and looks worth chancing.
Titanium Moon is likely to go off favourite and does look the danger for Donald McCain. She has won her last 4 and is clearly a mare thriving right now. Of the rest Lily Du Berlais needs to bounce back but certainly shouldn’t be written off.
Leopardstown 2.45
Stablemates STATE MAN and Impaire Et Passe met here just after Christmas and the latter ran out a convincing winner by over 3 lengths at the line. I see that form playing out again and it could be yet more punishment for the bookies. He will be looking to win this before having another crack at Constitution Hill at Cheltenham next month.
Impaire Et Passe is a very smart horse himself but hard to see him reversing that recent form. Bob Olinger has looked back on the up recently winning his last two but this is tougher again and he might be up against it.
Musselburgh 3.00
There was lots to like about the way SPRINGWELL BAY ran on strongly to win at Cheltenham on penultimate start. I know he could only finish fourth behind Butch last time but that is form I rate highly and I just think he made a few too many errors to land a telling blow. If he jumps slicker here we will see a much more polished performance and he is still a horse with considerable potential off this mark. I know his trainer thinks a lot of him and there should be plenty more to come yet.
Absolute Notions is understandably favourite after winning impressively at Fairyhouse and looks the most obvious danger to the selection but that is reflected in his odds being favourite at the time of writing. Almuhit is interesting but does need to bounce back. Peking Rose is another one to note with confident high after that narrow Doncaster success.
Leopardstown 3.20
I’m really looking forward to this handicap chase mainly because I feel MEETINGOFTHEWATERS has an outstanding chance. He has really improved since going chasing winning readily at Cork and then following up at this track beating Panda Boy by 4 and a half lengths last time. He is up in the weights as a result but is clearly progressive and should run a big race again.
Inothewayurthinkin has eye-catching form behind Imagine and Gaelic Warrior and looks set to run a big race but the bookies are taking no chances making him fav and there isn’t any value in his price. Heart Wood has knocked on the door the last twice albeit bumping into Blood Destiny last time and is another one to note.
Musselburgh 3.35
Things didn’t work out for THUNDER ROCK last time but that was a tough ask against some experienced handicappers. He was impressive at Carlisle prior to that and back down in class here with headgear applied I’m expecting him to bounce back quickly. He is still unexposed and could easily improve again so he gets a confident vote to take this.
Outlaw Peter bumped into Blow Your Wad at Kempton last time and with further improvement to come looks the biggest danger. Both Petit Tonnerre and Frero Banjo are also feared in a decent race to close out.
