Newcastle 1.53

The winning run may well continue for the progressive SPARTAN ARMY here. He completed the hat-trick at Lingfield when last seen and while he only prevailed by a neck that performance was backed up by the clock so it was a good effort with the front 3 miles clear. He is only 4lb higher and if in the same form should win again with Probert back in the saddle.

Palace Boy saw his winning run ended to the selection last time but does get a 7lb swing so looks the danger. Vaguely Royal also ties in on that form so is another one to note.

Newcastle 1.53

Spartan Army 7/2 NOTEBOOK

Main danger Palace Boy

Lingfield 2.05

This is wide open but then part of me does feel like ASGARD’S CAPTAIN and Al Rufaa will battle it out. The former is on a terrific run of form having won his last 3 and despite carrying a penalty you’d be foolish to rule out further improvement. The worry is his run at this track back in January but if he handles it better this time he must have a great chance.

Obviously Al Rufaa also has plenty going for him as he got caught back in the pack before running on for second last time. He clocked a decent time in defeat so must have a chance.

Newcastle 2.05

Asgard’s Captain 4/1

Main danger Al Rufaa

Newcastle 2.25

Another race where plenty are in with chances but I have come down on SOMMELIER for Marco Botti. This horse was progressive when last seen winning 2 of his 3 starts and he went down just half a length on handicap debut at this track back in January. He is 4lb better off with Blue Prince on that run and with further improvement to come I fancy him to reverse the form.

Blue Prince would have to be respected as he could have more to come himself. Fire Demon has also won 2 of his last 3 and if bringing his best would also get involved despite a 5lb rise.

Newcastle 2.25

Sommelier 4/1

Main danger Fire Demon but watch out for Blue Prince too

Lingfield 2.40

This is one of the most difficult races of the day as I’m quite strong on taking on the favourite Cephalus. This is tougher and he is penalised for that C&D win just a week ago. I like BENAVENTE at around 8/1 at the time of writing. This horse clocked a career best beating Star Zinc at Southwell last month and despite a tricky draw might be worth chancing.

Plenty of dangers likely headed by Dingle who has won at this track and wasn’t disgraced when fourth over C&D last time behind Dear My Friend and co. Before that he bumped into Noble Order so it is all stacking up. Gincident will get competitive too and is probably a solid place bet.

Lingfield 2.40

Benavente 8/1 each way

Main danger Dingle but Gincident should run well and place

Newcastle 3.00

The way NINE TENTHS swept through to win the Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton last time was impressive and back in handicap company she should take a lot of beating. 7lb claimer Jack Enright rode her to success at Wolverhampton earlier in the season and gets the leg back up and she is better off at the weights with Shades Of Summer who still looks the main danger.

Wild Side was third behind the two mentioned above and looks best of the rest.

Lingfield 3.15

Obviously ARTISAN DANCER ran just yesterday finishing third in a good race at Southwell. That place meant he won a nice pot too so I’m not sure if he’ll take his chance but he is definitely an each way player if doing so. I’ll likely hold off to see if he lines up as this race is a tricky puzzle to solve. He’d definitely have a chance of running well but might be worth having a bet closer to post time.

Aqwaam has been running to a decent level and might not be far away again either. Bascule also has the form to have a say in this and is another one to note along with Pons Aelius but there are several in with chances.

Lingfield 3.15

Artisan Dancer 11/1 each way

Main danger Aqwaam

Newcastle 3.35

I’m keen to side with the top-weight ALBASHEER here for Archie Watson. This good looking 6yo has really improved lately winning readily over C&D back in January having always travelled well and then followed up back to the minimum here last time. That form looks solid and despite going up another 5lb with a strong pace to target should be the one to beat again.

Cover Up has impressed winning his last 3 and looks the most obvious danger as he is unbeaten on the AW too. At a huge price The X O might be able to grab a place as he has caught the eye a few times in defeat and did again at Lingfield only beaten a length and three quarters.

Newcastle 3.35

Albasheer 6/1 VALUE TIP

Main danger Cover Up

Lingfield 3.50

There is a gamble materialising on Daamberdiplomat for Johnny Murtagh and while he could go well he is already short enough at around 11/4 at the time of writing. HOW IMPRESSIVE has been flying winning 3 of his last 4 and might just about be the one to beat again. That was a career best last time so he might improve again.

Looking past the market I thought Bosh could threaten as he ran well when third at Wolverhampton and that is decent form. Prince Of Zenda is on a hat-trick and is another one in with a squeak in an open race.

Lingfield 3.50

How Impressive 6/1 each way

Main danger Bosh

Newcastle 4.10

The progressive PENZANCE is definitely one of my stronger bets of the day. This likeable grey has now racked up a four-timer for Mick Appleby and you wouldn’t rule out further progress again. He is up 6lb from that Lingfield win but his form before that is all stacking up and he could easily still be ahead of the handicapper.

Oh So Grand has won her last 3 and freshened up since that win over Queen Regent in January could be the main danger. She is up 8lb though and this is a decent race. Elegant Man is unexposed and is another one in with a shout on handicap debut.

Newcastle 4.10

Penzance 4/1

Main danger Oh So Grand

Newcastle 4.40

The progressive DEAR MY FRIEND ran out a ready winner at Lingfield when last seen at the start of the month and a further 6lb rise doesn’t look enough to prevent him landing the four-timer. The third Kingdom Come has won since to frank the form and he is still open to further improvement given he is unexposed in handicaps on the AW.

Kingdom Come is also going the right way and might be the one to chase him home. Mclean House also has a squeak.

Newcastle 4.40
