Musselburgh 1.50

It was a good day for Karl Burke yesterday and it could get even better this afternoon and he has ICE MAX in the opener. This son of Dark Angel won head in chest at Catterick on penultimate start and while he failed to fire at Doncaster on final start that was in really deep ground and I feel like he had excuses. He has been given time since and he should be a lot stronger now so could easily improve again.

Individualism has very good form in the book and the yard do well in this race so it is no surprise to see him favourite. I do fear him most with more to come now but he does need to prove himself up to a mile for the first time in testing ground.

Musselburgh 1.50

Ice Max 9/2

Main danger Individualism

Haydock 2.05

The ground is going to take some getting so BRENTFORD HOPE looks the way to go. He is such a strong traveller in these testing conditions and despite disappointing a bit when getting beat at Newbury on penultimate start he was back to his best at Newcastle. He has more to come and looks a good bet to follow up.

Playful Saint was a good second only beaten narrowly to Milldam last time and with that horse out looks the main danger. The Churchill Lad best of the rest.

Main danger Playful Saint

Musselburgh 2.25

With 3 wins from his first 4 starts last year POET MASTER looks a horse to keep firmly on side on his return. Karl Burke has his horses plenty forward too and this son of Lope De Vega should have more to come this season and can take an 8lb rise in his stride here. He likes to go forward and the only other pace I see in the race is from Gweedore so as long as they don’t go too hard this should pan out perfectly.

Northern Express was a good second on final start at York and off the same mark looks the most obvious danger.

Main danger Northern Express

Haydock 2.40

Despite pulling up at Exeter GOSHHOWPOSH could easily bounce back and go close here. He had won 2 of his last 3 before that blip and with blinkers now applied it would be no surprise to see him get back on track. He has been left on the same mark and is still unexposed so 8/1 makes plenty of appeal.

Astronomic View won easily at Warwick and I do think he is the danger but an 8lb rise for a race that somewhat fell apart seems harsh. Picanha will be sharper and is another one I fear.

Haydock 2.40

Goshhowposh 8/1 each way

Main danger Astronomic View but watch out for Picanha as well

Musselburgh 3.00

Silky Wilkie will go off fav here as he is starting to look well treated again but I prefer VINTAGE CLARETS at a bigger price. He won at York and Catterick before finishing a good third behind Aberama Gold at Doncaster and given he is proven fresh he looks sure to run his race.

Silky Wilkie would have to be feared but Zarzyni is another one I can see running well having only been denied a head at Newcastle at the start of the month.

Musselburgh 3.00

Vintage Clarets 11/2

Main danger Silky Wilkie and Zarzyni

Haydock 3.15

With a recent run under his belt I’m expecting RIDERS ONTHE STORM to run a big race here. Off the back of a wind op he was beaten just a length and a quarter by Homme Public at Doncaster and I thought he just shaped as though he’d improve again for the outing. He has been left off the same mark so if building on that should be the one to beat and at his current odds looks a bit of value.

Champagne Mystery was beaten a couple of lengths by Golden Son at Kempton last month and looks the danger off the back of that. Thor De Cerisy is on a hat-trick after winning at Chepstow the last twice and is another one expected to have a say in the outcome here.

Haydock 3.15

Riders Onthe Storm 5/1 VALUE TIP

Main danger Champagne Mystery but look out for Thor De Cerisy too

Musselburgh 3.35

This is wide open but I’m keen to take a chance on STRUTH for Charlie Johnston. This horse has run well on numerous occasions and ended last year on the up going down just a neck at Newcastle. He is 2lb higher on return but almost certainly has more to come as a 4yo and handles testing conditions too. He just looks a decent each way play in an open event.

Chillingham ran a cracker going down just half a length to Prydwen and that form has been boosted since so he looks the main danger to the selection.

Musselburgh 3.35

Struth 9/1 each way LONGSHOT

Main danger Chillingham
