Sandown 1.15
The Sandown opener is a fascinating contest and it isn’t the easiest puzzle to try and solve but past C&D form could count for plenty so MIAHARRIS gets the vote. She was impressive over track and trip on debut last year and then followed up at Newbury. Things didn’t pan out at Salisbury but she was back to form at Newmarket and still has potential to do better on handicap debut.
Karl Burke is in terrific form so Sports Coach could be the danger. He was beaten a length on debut and then won his next two starts. He goes handicapping trying turf for the first time so looks the main threat. Tan Rapido is another one I can see running well at a slightly bigger price.
Perth 1.30
I’d still like RASCAL to settle better but there is no doubting that was a big run to chase home Wreckless Eric at Huntingdon and if he improves again he is going to be right in the mix here. He is up just 3lb and given the third and fifth have come out and run well since the form seems to have substance. There is a lot of pace on so he should get smuggled into it and he makes plenty of appeal at an each way price.
Old Gregorian has looked a work in progress so it will be interesting to see if he improves following a wind op. Mack The Man won well at Musselburgh though and looks a greater threat. Cuban Cigar also deserves a mention as he ties in with the latter.
Sandown 1.50
I’m looking forward to seeing HAND OF GOD in the flesh. He looked a really promising colt winning impressively at Newmarket on final start and with Ryan Moore booked for his handicap debut he could be one to follow this season. An opening mark of 88 looks lenient and I think this son of Churchill will take a lot of beating.
Cogitate has fitness on side having finished runner-up at Southwell on return and could emerge as the danger. Royal Supremacy is another one to note having won 2 from 3 as a 2yo.
Perth 2.05
Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero had a four-timer a couple of days ago so they are red-hot right now and DUKE OF DECEPTION should be the way to go here. He clocked a career best winning at Haydock last time and despite an 8lb rise if he gets into a nice rhythm again he could prove hard to hold out. The third Inflexible has won since so the form has been given a boost already.
Plenty of dangers as this looks competitive and Haute Estime might be one of them. She was going well when falling here last year and was back to form when third at Bangor last time so has claims off a nice looking mark. Breeze Of Wind ran well again when fourth last time and if avoiding errors is another danger.
Sandown 2.25
The drop back to a mile and a quarter isn’t ideal for DESERT HERO but his class might see him come out on top. He showed real guts to win the King George last year and again dug deep to win at Glorious Goodwood. There wasn’t much wrong with his third in the St Leger and he is still very much unexposed so could easily improve again. If Artistic Star and Flying Honours go hard this could set up for him and hopefully he has enough pace to land a blow.
Okeechobee won 3 of his first 4 starts before finishing second to Dubai Honour at Kempton on return from a long absence. If he improves on that he could have a say in this but I’m surprised at how short he is in the betting. I actually think Flying Honours could bounce back and emerge as the danger.
Sandown 3.00
Kingman colt NOSTRUM ran too bad to be true at York on final start last year and I’m hopeful he can make a winning return here. He is still armed with tons of potential and his win over Embesto at Newmarket was very impressive. He is a horse that goes particularly well fresh and I think this test will suit. I know he is fav but I think he deserves to be with course form in the book and Moore on top there is lots to like.
Charyn made a winning return at Doncaster but that race rather fell in his lap and I think he’ll need to improve to beat the selection. Lord North is obviously very classy but he is an 8yo now and his record at the track isn’t too good. Poker Face might upset the odds and chase the selection home.
Sandown 3.35
The exciting ARABIAN CROWN should be open to further improvement as a 3yo. He was a big eye-catcher on debut at this track and then won his next 3 including at Group 3 level on final start. He looks a really promising colt and with tons more to come especially over this trip I expect him to extend the winning sequence.
Macduff should have more to come moving up in trip here and might be the danger but War Rooms is another one to note given how impressive he was on debut.
