Sandown 1.50
I’m surprised PANJARI has drifted to as big as 16/1 this morning. This 6yo has looked progressive this season and has won 2 of his last 3. He got into a good rhythm again to win at Ffos Las last time and while he is carrying top-weight here he is still open to improvement to should run a big race with Freddie Gingell claiming a handy 5lb off his back.
Plenty of dangers likely headed by the good looking Secret Squirrel who was back in the winners enclosure at Taunton last time. He goes handicapping now and could easily step forward again. Be Aware and Fire Flyer complete the shortlist.
With the ground ideal AL MUBHIR should have a great chance back in a handicap. He has been gelded over the winter too and with cheekpieces reached for connections will be hopeful of a big run from him. He obviously won this back in 2023 so clearly goes particularly well over track and trip. No surprise to see him favourite.
In terms of a danger Thunder Roar has run well the last twice and could have more to come over a mile. Magic Memories is another one that could get competitive with a run under his belt.
Sandown 2.25
This looks between the top pair in the betting and I’m hopeful THE REAL WHACKER can get himself back in the winners enclosure. He obviously beat Gerri Colombe in the Brown Advisory at the Cheltenham Festival last year and while things haven’t gone to plan since and he did pull up last time that did come in the Gold Cup. These are obviously much calmer waters and the railway fences here should really suit. He is still armed with potential and looks the most likely winner.
Hitman ran a cracker chasing home Shishkin at Newbury and then wasn’t disgraced at Cheltenham behind Protektorat. Cobden seems quite bullish on his chances but I still have my doubts about him off the bridle. If the change in headgear works he could get it done but it is a big if and I’ve sided with the favourite over him.
Haydock 2.45
Another drifter which surprises me somewhat as I think EARLS will go close. He was denied just a nose at the Curragh last time and if matching that sort of form here should get the job done. There is lots of pace on with the likes of Sparks Fly and Gweedore likely to lock horns early. It really could pan out perfectly as he will look to swoop late and pick them up.
Tacarib Bay is the one I fear most for Richard Hannon. He has won over C&D and was just too free when down the field on the AW on return. With that under his belt he can improve and get involved here.
Sandown 3.00
The race everyone is waiting for and I’m confident EL FABIOLO can confirm form with Jonbon. He does have a bit to prove after nearly unseating Paul Townend at Cheltenham last month and subsequently pulling up. He was a perfect 6-6 over fences prior to that blip and I expect him to bounce back quickly here. He is still a really exciting horse and I’m surprised we’re getting 4/5 as I thought he’d be shorter.
Jonbon is obviously very talented himself but he has a bit to find on that Arkle form and himself hasn’t been foot-perfect recently. He jumped poorly when beat on penultimate start and while he got back on track at Aintree I still think he is up against it. This track will suit so it is a race I am really looking forward to as it could produce a classic over the railway fences.
Sandown 3.35
I would love to see KITTY’S LIGHT win this again for Christian Williams. This horse absolutely thrives on his racing and again he ran a cracker finishing fifth in the Grand National at Aintree earlier in the month. He won this last year after winning the Scottish Grand National so I think he’ll handle the quick turnaround again. He has eased out slightly in the betting and at around 6/1 now seems amazing value.
Such a good race so plenty of dangers likely headed by Le Milos who hasn’t shown much recently but as a result is nicely treated and back over fences things could easily click here for the Skelton’s. Minella Cocooner ran well at Fairyhouse last time and is another one I expect to get competitive.
ITV Racing Lucky 15
I have combined 4 horses running live on ITV Racing on Saturday to make a Lucky 15. This looks decent value. Pays 600/1!

2.25 Sandown The Real Whacker 9/4
