Chester 1.30

A wide open race to kick off ITV on Friday but the hat-trick seeking LIAMARTY DREAMS should give a decent account. He won over this C&D as a 3yo and has looked better than ever this season winning on return at Doncaster and then following up with a bit in hand at Musselburgh. He is armed with a good draw and should give us a good run for our money.

Percy’s Lad is also proven over track and trip and he caught the eye beaten just a length on reappearance. That looks solid form so he is the danger. Boardman at a bigger price is another one who likes it here and should go well.

Chester 1.30

Liamarty Dreams 6/1 each way

Main danger Percy’s Lad but look out for Boardman too

Ascot 1.50

The money came for AMERICAN BAY on handicap debut and with a clear run he may well have won. He was yet to be asked for an effort 2 furlongs from home but just couldn’t find a gap and when he did the race was over. He ran on strongly but couldn’t reach the leaders and in truth it was a poor ride from Probert. The yard continue in terrific form and off the same mark he should take a lot of beating so no surprise to see the money coming again.

Dragon Leader has won 4 from 5 and impressed taking a Listed contest on final start as a 2yo. He has more to come on handicap debut and is the likely danger but the lack of a run would have to be a bit of a worry.

Ascot 1.50

American Bay 5/1 VALUE TIP

Main danger Dragon Leader

Chester 2.05

I’m surprised EPHESUS has drifted so much in the betting as Aidan O’Brien is very much back in form now and this colt by Galileo ran a pleasing enough race on debut beaten less than 3 lengths into third at Dundalk looking inexperienced. He will love going up to a mile and a half and with that under his belt I’m expecting a big run and I’m not letting the market put me off.

Mr Hampstead cost plenty and ran a big race on debut on sole start as a 2yo. He looked to need the run when fourth on return at Newbury and is definitely the danger. Mina Rashid not out of it either but might just find one too good.

Chester 2.05

Ephesus 9/4

Main danger Mr Hampstead

Chester 2.35

I do think Botanical is probably the one to beat in this as he travelled so strongly before winning easily at Hamilton on final start last year. He has more to offer and will likely be a warm order despite a 10lb rise but BOX TO BOX seems the value play. He goes well at this venue and was back to form beaten just a length in Bahrain when last seen back in February. If they go hard he will get a nice toe in and should run a big race.

Of the rest Dream Harder is another one I can see getting competitive along with City Streak.

Chester 2.35

Box To Box 8/1 each way LONGSHOT

Main danger Botanical

Chester 3.05

With 2 wins from 4 starts PASSENGER remains a colt to be on the right side of. He won fresh at Windsor when last seen and he looks a horse that is only going to improve with age and experience on side. He is lightly raced and could easily progress further now.

Israr went down just a length at Sandown on return and that was a good effort so looks the most obvious danger.

Chester 3.05

Passenger 11/4 NEXT BEST

Main danger Israr

Chester 3.40

The Chester Cup is always a race I look forward to and AZTEC EMPIRE should have a great chance under Oisin Murphy. He ran a monster race denied just a neck by Forza Orta in a good race at York and despite failing to give his running at Haydock on final start he definitely catches the eye for this. He is still lightly raced and a mark of 92 should be lenient.

Zoffee was runner-up in this last year and always seems to run well in these big handicaps so I expect him to be on the premises again. Forza Orta might be the one to put up the most resistance though as I think he could be interesting up in trip.

Chester 3.40

Aztec Empire 7/1 each way

Main danger Forza Orta but Zoffee will likely be bang there as well

Chester 4.15

It was hard not to be impressed with the way PRINCE ALEX won at Newbury on return last month. He hit the line hard and I rate the second Robert Johnson so I think it was a good effort. He has a 3lb penalty to carry but if in that sort of form again then I think he’ll go very close in this and it is hardly surprising to see him figuring prominently in the betting.

Law Of The Sea has a lot to prove but he has been given a chance by the handicapper now and if bouncing back would be a danger to all. Baez is a gutsy mare and she is another one I can see running a nice race in a competitive renewal.

Chester 4.15

Prince Alex 9/2

Main dangers Law Of The Sea and at a bigger price Baez can run well

Chester 4.50

I’m keen to chance ORDER OF MALTA on his return. This son of Lope De Vega has won fresh before and he ran an eye-catching race at this track last year where he was denied a run at a crucial stage. Things didn’t work out at Bath on final start but the ground turned really testing and I think that can be excused. He is back down to a mile and a half here and has been dropped 2lb since so there is a big chance he returns to form. Brandon Wilkie claims 3lb as well and has been in good form.

The danger could be Chillhi who is also coming back down the weights and he was hampered on return at Southwell so could leave that behind back on turf.

Chester 4.50

Order Of Malta 9/4 NOTEBOOK

Main danger Chillhi

Chester 5.23

A tricky apprentice race to close out but TURNER GIRL can acquit herself well. She is pretty consistent and won with a bit to spare at Doncaster last month. She is back up in trip and under likely positive tactics should take a bit of pegging back. Morgan Cole has impressed me from what I’ve seen to so definitely no negative there.

Giselles Defence will likely go off favourite and does look the danger. It is a quick turnaround though and they have reached for cheekpieces again weirdly. He carries a penalty but should go well again.

Chester 5.23

Turner Girl 6/1 each way

Main danger Giselles Defence

Chester May Festival Day 3 Acca

I’ve been knocking on the door with this. Today I’m chancing a straight Place Acca which basically includes my strongest 4 bets on the day. Pays 13/2!
