Haydock 1.15

Obviously a really good field lining up for the Silver Bowl but VOLTERA is hard to get away from. He improved with every start as a 2yo and got his head in front at Redcar on final outing. He clearly did well over the winter as he took another big step forward to win impressively on reappearance at Newmarket. He pulled early there but travelled strongly into it and stayed on strongly in the closing stages to win by nearly 3 lengths.

That visual impression has been backed up by the form book since with the runner-up Skukuza winning in good style at Newmarket next time out. He is up 9lb but looks a colt to keep firmly on side and I’m expecting another big run. Blue Lemons bumped into Hand Of God at Sandown and is the most immediate threat.

Haydock 1.15

Voltera 9/2 VALUE TIP

Main danger Blue Lemons

Goodwood 1.30

I’m confident AL SHABAB STORM is going to go close here. He looked to need the run at Newbury on reappearance but quickly stepped forward to go down just a neck at Chester and given he won at this track as a 2yo a return to this venue is definitely a positive. He is 4lb higher but the step back up to 7f will suit and he looks to have plenty going for him.

The danger is likely Monfrid who won despite still looking raw at Catterick. He goes handicapping now and should have more to come. Qirat is also unexposed and is another one expected to get competitive.

Goodwood 1.30

Al Shabab Storm 13/2 each way

Main danger Monfrid but also look out for Qirat

Haydock 1.50

After completing a hat-trick not a lot went right for ROGUE LIGHTNING in the Prix de l’Abbaye but he was only beaten a length and a half. He should have more to offer as a 4yo and as long as he doesn’t need the run here he should go close. He has a progressive profile and looks a sprinter to keep firmly on side here and going forward this season.

Vadream will love the ground and she has run well twice this season since returning but I do think she might be vulnerable to an improver. Live In The Dream is another speedball expected to get involved.

Haydock 1.50

Rogue Lightning 5/1 each way

Main danger Vadream but Live In The Dream could go well too

Goodwood 2.05

I was keen to give Beeley another chance as I still think she is a filly with potential but now she has come out REGAL JUBILEE looks the one to beat. This Frankel filly missed just a neck on return before disappointing in the Guineas last time. If you put a line through that with the step up in trip likely to suit she could get herself back in the winners enclosure.

Francophone impressed winning at Southwell and then finished second to Secret Satire in the Musidora. She has more to offer after just a handful of starts and looks the danger. At a bigger price Local Arms is definitely worth a second look but might need more time and experience.

Goodwood 2.05

Regal Jubilee 5/2

Main danger Francophone

Haydock 2.25

No surprise to see VANDEEK a warm order for this. He went a perfect 4-4 as a 2yo last year and was particularly impressive in the Middle Park Stakes on final start scooting clear. He sets a very good standard on that and with the promise of more to come is impossible to oppose here. I really hope he delivers and we have another special sprinter on our hands to follow.

Inisherin was impressive at Newcastle on second start and then didn’t run a bad race when sixth in the Guineas. He has more to come and as long as this drop back to sprinting doesn’t go against him he could be the one to chase the favourite home.

Haydock 2.25

Vandeek 8/11

Main danger Inisherin

York 2.45

Again my initial pick for this race was going to be Democracy Dilemma but with him out now RABAAH could take a bit of beating. He looked a horse going places winning at Lingfield and then Wolverhampton and despite not kicking on since has run some good races in defeat. I thought he shaped as though he needed it on return at Newmarket and having been gelded and dropped back to the minimum trip he makes lots of appeal off a mark of 95.

Starlust has some decent form to his name and I think he still might be capable of more back down to 5f so looks the danger. Korker needs to get away on terms but is another one that needs respecting if everything drops right.

York 2.45

Rabaah 7/2

Main danger Starlust

Haydock 3.00

I know ENGLISH OAK failed to land the gamble at Newmarket on return but I thought he ran a really pleasing race beaten just a couple of lengths. He will strip a lot fitter for the run and in what looks an easier race he should get his head back in front. I think he can rate much higher than this level going forward but probably over a mile plus.

Metabolt ran well on reappearance to finish fourth at Chester and that looks solid form so if building on that is the danger. Baldomero won at Goodwood and is also feared.

Haydock 3.00

English Oak 9/4 NEXT BEST

Main danger Metabolt

York 3.20

This could easily be a race that works out well in time but I think fresh RIVER OF STARS will be hard to beat. She won this first time out last year and clearly goes well at this venue. It looks winnable again and if in that sort of form should take a lot of beating.

Gather Ye Rosebuds improved to win at Goodwood but I’m not sure she’ll be seeing this out as strongly as one or two others. Safety Catch could have more to offer and might even be the biggest danger.

York 3.20

River Of Stars 7/2

Main danger Safety Catch

Haydock 3.30

I know NOTHING TO SEA has to carry top-weight but that is deservedly so. He has won 2 from 4 to date and has looked better and better since his stamina has been drawn out. He goes up to 2 miles for the first time and with further improvement to come is expected to make a winning return under James Doyle.

Plenty of dangers in a race like this and Divine Comedy probably heads them as she should be sharper after that reappearance third at Doncaster. Zimmerman down the bottom of the weights is another one I can see running well with testing conditions in his favour as well.

Haydock 3.30

Nothing To Sea 5/1 each way

Main danger Divine Comedy but Zimmerman will go well too at a double-figure price

Curragh 3.40

Time for the Irish Guineas now and it is hard to look past ROSALLION for Richard Hannon. This Blue Point colt finished runner-up in the English equivalent finding only the exciting Notable Speech too strong. He has more to come on just his sixth start and with any rain only going to help him he is the one to beat as the market is suggesting.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see a 1-2 for Hannon with Haatem lining up as well. He finished a place behind his stablemate at Newmarket earlier in the month and has returned a much improved individual.

Curragh 3.40

Rosallion 10/11

Main danger Haatem

ITV Racing Acca

I have picked out this acca for the racing on Saturday. It has a mix of win and place. Pays 25/1!
