Newmarket 1.50
I’m surprised Ancient Wisdom is as short as he is in the betting as SPACE LEGEND looks sure to make a race of it and looks the value play. He is improving with experience and after bolting up at Leicester missed just a neck to the promising Meydaan and then bumped into one in the King Edward VII Stakes. He has more to come as his stamina is drawn out further and I think he is the one to beat.
Ancient Wisdom was only midfield in The Derby and bumped into Economics in the Dante before that so is still the danger but I wouldn’t want to take a short price about him. The other pair have a bit to find.
The money came for WHISTLEJACKET before the Norfolk and while the gamble wasn’t landed he still shaped with considerable promise finishing fourth. He just looked like he wanted further staying on well so I expect him to take another big step forward tackling 6f for the first time here. He bolted up in soft ground at the Curragh on penultimate start so the ground should be to his liking as well given how much rain we’ve had recently. I think he has plenty going for him.
Electrolyte was denied just a nose in the Coventry looking a bit unlucky as the winner was on the other side of the track. He is clearly a very talented colt as well and looks the obvious danger. Ain’t Nobody is a perfect 2-2 after winning the Windsor Castle but this is tougher again.
Newmarket 3.00
Make no mistake this is wide open but I do think ELMONJED will run a big race. He won both starts as a juvenile and has shown promise on both starts so far this season at York. He was only beaten 3 lengths or so over this trip last time and if finding further improvement will go close. I’d like to see him given a bit more of a patient ride and with a lot of pace on here that will definitely be possible.
Woodhay Wonder is at the top of her game so looks the danger. Dorney Lake could also bounce back with a big run as I think he’ll be well suited by this track. Tropical Island is being backed but I think she’ll need a big performance to take this.
Newmarket 3.35
Hard to look past HAMISH for this. I know he is an 8yo now but he looked good winning on reappearance at Newbury and then ran right up to form beaten just a length staying on strongly at Epsom. A repeat of that would likely see him back in the winners enclosure and I think he’ll justify cramped odds. He is versatile regarding the ground so he is hard to pick holes in.
Arrest was behind the selection at Newbury but ran better when second to Point Lonsdale in the Ormonde Stakes so looks the danger if building on that again. Giavellotto is another one to note but the drop back in trip and a penalty must go against him in this company.
Newmarket 4.10
This could easily be a maiden that works out well in time so Notebooks at the ready but I do think MISS FASCINATOR might take a bit of beating. She was beaten just half a length on debut over C&D and with that experience under her belt she should have a good chance to go one better. I’ll be surprised if she isn’t well backed as having that experience at the track could prove key.
Valentia Island was an expensive Breeze-Up purchase and despite only managing fifth over C&D could easily take a big step forward. She obviously has ground to make up with the selection but still might be the danger.
This will demand further improvement but I was really impressed with that win from LEAD ARTIST at York when last seen and I think he is a Group performer in the making. He ran on strongly in the closing stages the last day and if handling this softer ground is definitely the one to beat.
Kitty Rose ran well beaten 4 lengths in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot last month and is the danger off the back of that. Socialite is 2-2 and is another one who could get competitive.
That debut win from FIFTY NIFTY was impressive and despite being beat at Doncaster since he still has a lot of potential. I just think he was given too much to do last time and now handicapping we could see a much better performance. That win at Yarmouth was bordering on smart so I definitely wouldn’t judge him too harshly on that last run as he is a lot better than that.
The Ice Phoenix really impressed winning at Ascot on penultimate start but then completely blew out at Haydock. If bouncing back at a track I think will suit he could be the danger. Sterling Knight also has a bit to prove but does have Oisin Murphy booked and might be able to hit the frame.
