Ascot 1.50

This is a race that has been won by some nice fillies down the years and I’m hoping SIMMERING can fit the bill this year for Ollie Sangster. This daughter of Too Darn Hot was a big eye-catcher finishing third on debut at York and then ran a screamer beaten less than a length by Fairy Godmother in the Albany at Royal Ascot last month. The winner was obviously very impressive how she managed to find a gap and come home well but the selection also ran huge as she was slowly away and had a lot to do. She will improve again and is one to keep on side.

Kingman filly Mandurah impressed winning on debut at Newmarket and could be a nice filly for Simon and Ed Crisford so might be the one to give her most to think about. Handcuffed also made a winning start and likely has a bright future too.

Simmering 2/1 NOTEBOOK

Main danger Mandurah

York 2.05

Hard to rule any of these runners out and this is quite comfortably the toughest race of the day. I am going to chance ZARZYNI despite him being on a lengthy losing run. He was denied just a neck on penultimate start and is better than what he managed to show at Hamilton last time. The cheekpieces go back on and if he can bounce back then he is quite good value in the market at 12/1. If he can hit the frame that would be a good run and with a bit more luck you never know he could surprise a few.

Obviously plenty of dangers likely headed by Strong Johnson. He is winless this season as well but shaped quite well only beaten a couple of lengths at Thirsk last time and is off a good mark so could go close. Whisky Mcgonagall also deserves a mention as he had excuses last time and remains a lightly raced 4yo who could do better.

York 2.05

Zarzyni 12/1 each way LONGSHOT

Main dangers Strong Johnson and Whisky Mcgonagall

Ascot 2.25

Devoted Queen is a filly I rate and she is still unbeaten having won all 3 starts to date. This will definitely test her though and she also hasn’t run since May which is a slight concern. I’ve decided to chance FRIENDLY SOUL who herself lacks a recent spin but she was so impressive at Newmarket and I just think that York run came too soon. Given time since she still has a lot of potential and if back to her best could win this before going on to even better things. I think she could be pretty smart.

Soprano obviously loves this track and impressed winning the Sandringham over C&D. With a better ride she might have gone closer when third last time and arrives in good form so can run well too. Sirona also has form claims so don’t rule her out either in a good renewal.

Ascot 2.25

Friendly Soul 5/1 each way

Main danger Devoted Queen but Soprano respected too

York 2.40

It is crazy to think KORKER is still just a 5yo as feels like he has been around for years! I do think he has a good chance to win this off top-weight. He was only beaten 2 and a half lengths in a Listed race over 5f here last time and that was a good run to get as close as he did. Back in handicap company he is just 1lb above his last winning mark and stepping up to 6f for just the second time in his career could see him run a massive race. He’ll need to get away on terms but the harder they go the better and at 9/1 he has been overlooked again.

Manila Scouse has won over C&D in the past and is another one that is quite a big price for this despite not running his race last time. He could easily be the danger so is feared. Trefor is likeable and is eyeing up a hat-trick so is another one who is greatly respected.

York 2.40

Korker 9/1 each way

Main danger Manila Scouse

Ascot 3.00

A lot like Korker in the race before I feel like I’ve backed ORAZIO so many times in the past. There is no denying he was a massive eye-catcher in the Wokingham though. He flashed home for third and was beaten less than a length. With another 50 yards or so he might have won the race so stepping up to 7f here if he gets the gaps then he must go close and 7/1 makes plenty of appeal. He is a tricky horse but with Buick booked everything points towards a big run and the price is right.

Carrytheone has held his form well since winning at Newmarket and is definitely one of the dangers. Metal Merchant is another double-figure price I can see running well as he travels so strongly and will be suited by this.

Ascot 3.00

Orazio 7/1 each way

Main danger Carrytheone but look out for Metal Merchant too

York 3.15

There was lots to like about the way PASSENGER won on reappearance at Chester back in May. He arrives on a hat-trick now and with more to come I fully expect him to prove too good for these. This trip looks his optimum and with Sir Michael Stoute coming back into form there is lots to like. It is no surprise they are targeting this pot as it is the most prize money York have ever put on. Hopefully he can win it before coming back for the International and also the Irish Champion Stakes potentially on his radar at the end of the season.

Alflaila ran well behind Auguste Rodin and co in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last month and looks the biggest danger. He also won the race last year so is definitely respected. King’s Gambit looked really unlucky at Royal Ascot but he will need to step up on that again and might not be the most straightforward.

York 3.15

Ascot 3.40

The King George is always a great spectacle and we have potential for another epic race this year. AUGUSTE RODIN can blow hot and cold but there was no doubting his attitude winning the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. He is a very talented horse when at his best and with a lot of pace in the race he should have a good target to aim at and will be brought through more patiently by Ryan Moore. He is the most likely winner and I’m pleasantly surprised to see 6/4 available at the time of writing as I thought he’d be shorter.

Rebel’s Romance is a very tough horse who does look the danger for Appleby and Buick. He is a former Breeders’ Cup winner and he looked better than ever winning the Sheema Classic at Meydan in March and then the Champions Cup at Sha Tin in May. This is obviously the best of the best but he is there with a chance and should run well. Bluestocking has looked on the up winning her last two and is another one who can run well.

Ascot 3.40

Auguste Rodin 6/4

Main danger Rebel’s Romance but Bluestocking will get involved as well
