Goodwood 1.50

A competitive race to kick off Glorious Goodwood Day 3 but perhaps not as tough as it had first looked as we have had a few non runners now including some of those near the top of the market. It now looks a great opportunity for MIDNIGHT GUN to complete the hat-trick. This son of Kingman has been snapped up by Wathnan Racing and has moved yards as a result. His newmarket win has been franked since and with this extra yardage sure to suit he will be tough to beat.

Into Battle was only beaten a length at Sandown when last seen and is unexposed after just a handful of starts so could improve and emerge as the danger. Palace Green is another one who can do better and is respected too.

Goodwood 1.50

Midnight Gun 5/1 each way

Main danger Into Battle

Goodwood 2.25

There are potentially some nice types lining up here but perhaps none more so than THE STRIKIN VIKING who made a winning start for Kevin Ryan before going down just half a length in Group company in Ireland last month. He has since been snapped up by Wathnan Racing and has changed yards now as well. He is open to further improvement and looks the one to beat. He does encounter much quicker ground so needs to prove he can handle it but other than that is hard to pick holes in.

Tropical Storm was denied narrowly at Newmarket and then bumped into Shareholder in the Norfolk so looks the danger as he could be quite a nice horse as well. Billboard Star is also worth a mention as beat all bar Whistlejacket at Newmarket which is very good form.

Goodwood 2.25

The Strikin Viking 11/8 NAP

Main danger Tropical Storm

Goodwood 3.00

I know Jan Brueghel is unbeaten and is by Galileo so could be a smart prospect but odds-on looks too short doesn’t it? He is priced up on potential rather than form and something is telling me to try and take him on and get him beat. SAYEDATY SADATY has experience on side and ran a cracker to finish fifth in The Derby when last seen back in June. He has since left Andrew Balding and joined David Simcock and could still do better so looks the value play.

Obviously the favourite Jan Brueghel is feared as he could be a Leger horse down the line. Bellum Justum didn’t run badly behind Jayarebe in the Hampton Court and is another one to note but needs to prove himself over this trip as he is trying it for just the second time.

Goodwood 3.00

Sayedaty Sadaty 9/2

Main danger Jan Brueghel

Goodwood 3.35

The step up to a mile and a quarter should be ideal for OPERA SINGER and I’m confident she can get back to winning ways here. Aidan O’Brien has always held this filly in high regard and she has been highly tried twice so far this season. She reappeared finishing an excellent third to Fallen Angel in the Irish Guineas and then went down just a length to Porta Fortuna in the Coronation at Royal Ascot which is form that has been franked since. She will strip fitter again and with this trip sure to suit there is plenty to like.

Emily Upjohn is obviously a high-class mare and she bounced back from an awful run at Epsom to chase home Bluestocking at the Curragh. If she comes forward again she’ll be the obvious danger. Sparkling Plenty has won her last two but will need more again to get involved in this.

Goodwood 3.35

Opera Singer 5/2 NOTEBOOK

Main danger Emily Upjohn

Goodwood 4.10

I know El Burhan has won his last two and is looking progressive but this race screamed each way value to me and ORIGINAL OUTLAW must be overpriced at 9/1? He has got better with each start and ran well beaten just 3 lengths into second at Salisbury on first try over this trip. The winner Royal Playwright looks potentially useful so I think it is form that will work out well in time. He makes his nursery debut now and a mark of 80 may well prove to be lenient as he has a lot of scope to progress.

New Bay colt El Burhan does look the most likely winner and is feared but Gregorian colt Brighton Boy also impressed winning at Chester and is another one who looks off a lenient mark now dropped into a nursery.

Goodwood 4.10

Original Outlaw 10/1 each way LONGSHOT

Main danger El Burhan but look out for Brighton Boy too

Goodwood 4.45

The likeable KENDALL ROY has already won 4 times this season and I was impressed with how he swept to the front to win at Cork last week. He is thriving on his racing and could still have further improvement to come turned out quickly under a penalty here. Obviously in a big field sprint like this he will need luck in-running but I can’t see how he doesn’t go close against these.

Shagraan has a nice pot in him and I’m convinced this is hit trip so he is the danger. Grandlad wasn’t at his best last time but also has good form in the book and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he manages to get competitive as well.

Goodwood 4.45

Kendall Roy 9/2 each way

Main dangers Shagraan and Grandlad

Goodwood 5.20

Only 3 of the 12 runners here have form to their names so a lot of unknowns. American Pharoah DREAMY seems to be a bit of a talking horse for Aidan O’Brien and when you dig into her breeding it is easy to see why. She is a half-sister to New World Tapestry and her dam has a nice mix of speed and stamina. I expect her to be well backed come post time and she may well be good enough to justify that.

French Haven is another newcomer that is well related and it’ll be interesting to see what the market makes of her in the run up to the race. Of those with experience Bouvier was a promising third on debut at Doncaster and if she improves should be in the mix.

Goodwood 5.20

Dreamy 2/1

Main danger Bouvier

Goodwood 5.55

I have had my eye on SIR GABRIAL for a while so I was glad to see him win so impressively at Salisbury as he has always struck me as a horse with potential. The race did fall apart somewhat but he still galloped out strongly and looked impressive doing so. He carries a penalty here but if in the same form I think we’ll see another big run and he is being largely overlooked in the betting now out to as big as 10/1 with some firms.

Qirat was expected to do better than he did at Newmarket but is still unexposed and could bounce back with a big run. Treasure Time has looked progressive and is another one I expect to run well in a good race to close out.

Goodwood 5.55

Sir Gabrial 10/1 each way

Main dangers Qirat and Treasure Time
