Ascot 1.35
I’m not the biggest fan of the Shergar Cup so my advice would be to take it easy this afternoon. I’ve backed two against the field in the opener. Both of these horses love it at Ascot so hopefully we make it a good start. ADAAY IN DEVON has been on the go a while but she has thrived on her racing and she doesn’t know how to run a bad race. She went down less than a length at York last month and if in the same form back at this venue should go close.
C&D winner DREAM COMPOSER ran no sort of race at Goodwood last time but her form at this track is eye-catching and if bouncing back could run a big race. He is still well handicapped on old form and shouldn’t be ignored especially with plenty of pace on. In terms of dangers Badri should run well and Desert Cop is another one likely to get competitive.
Ascot 2.10
This is probably one of the toughest races of the day so a tentative vote goes to FOX JOURNEY. A word of warning he has been a negative in the betting and is out to 9/1 now but I still think he’ll run well. This Roaring Lion colt made a winning return at Newmarket and while he has failed to match that form since the handicapper is giving him a chance now so I think he has been overlooked.
Tides Of War also needs to bounce back but he is still fairly lightly raced and if doing so would have a chance in this. Spirit Mixer is being well backed and is another one in with a chance.
Haydock 2.25
This race is cutting up a bit as we have had 3 non runners already. THEME PARK really impressed winning at York last time and that visual impression was backed up by the clock too. If he is in that sort of form again and gets the gaps he could have a major shout of following up as a 4lb rise doesn’t look enough to stop him.
Kilt is unexposed and might be worth forgiving that latest effort. If bouncing back he would be a major player and the main danger. Old Cock was poor last time but still has potential but might need more time.
Ascot 2.45
Hard to rule out too many in this as it is so competitive but TRUTHFUL should go close. This filly didn’t shape badly at Newmarket on return last month and should be spot on now. She is still unexposed having only had the one start in a handicap so there could be a lot more to come yet. this will be easier than last time so she is definitely a danger to all.
Insanity prevailed by a neck at Windsor and then ran a cracker beaten half a length here last month. Dancing In Paris likes this trip and if settling better could be the danger to the selection.
Haydock 3.00
With both Bracken’s Laugh and Lord North now out this looks a golden opportunity for ANMAAT to return with a win. He won 4 of his last 5 and if defying the layoff should prove a cut above these as he was a Group 1 winner in France when last seen and this is just a Group 3 so no surprise to see him odds-on in the betting.
Al Mubhir won well at Sandown but this quicker ground would have to be a concern. Dangers are thin on the ground though so he might still be the one to put up the most resistance.
Ascot 3.20
I was really impressed with that C&D win from JARRAAF last month. He had been coming to the boil in two starts before that but looked to relish the drop back to 6f to win impressively last time. He had Fresh back in second who is a very decent yardstick especially at Ascot. The handicapper has understandably reacted raising him 8lb but he is completely unexposed and with further progress to come he looks a decent bet to follow up against these.
Daring Legend landed back to back wins at Newbury and Yarmouth and then wasn’t disgraced going down narrowly into third at Doncaster last time. He is probably better over 7f but if they go hard he could be suited by this test and looks the danger.
Newmarket 3.40
Frankel filly LAKE VICTORIA didn’t go unbacked on debut at the Curragh and she justified that support making a winning debut. For a filly so inexperienced I thought she showed a good attitude under pressure and she should have a good chance to make it a perfect 2-2 here.
Mountain Breeze was beaten less than a length last month and the third Heavens Gate who is a stablemate to the favourite has won since so she is the obvious danger.
Ascot 3.55
I’m confident SOLOMON is the one to beat here. He was impressive at Haydock last time and if handing the quick turnaround should be hard to oppose. I expect him to relish this step up to a mile and a half and it is no great surprise to see him strong in the betting as he looks one of the better bets of the day.
Sam Hawkens has only had a handful of starts and could have more to come now with Haggas. At a bigger price Dambuster needs to bounce back but is another one to note.
Ascot 4.30
This race looks a tricky puzzle so I’m willing to take a chance on TEMPUS returning to form. He likes it here and didn’t run badly when fourth behind Elnajmm last month. If building on that he could run better than his odds are suggesting.
New Image and Carrytheone are both feared with the former likely to be suited by a mile and he was only denied a neck last time.
Haydock 4.45
The well bred INDELIBLE should be difficult to beat here. She is out of Midday and has done little wrong in defeat the last twice since impressing at Doncaster. She came home first in her group when fourth to Soprano in the Sandringham and then ran well to finish runner-up in a Listed race at Sandown last month. She is open to further improvement and is one to keep firmly on side.
American Arrow was visually impressive scoring easily on debut at Haydock. She has more to come and looks a nice prospect but this is a big step up and she has a bit to find on the clock. Orchid Bloom is another one with a bright future and should go well.
