Doncaster 1.50
Despite that blip at Ascot CHANCELLOR has looked a very promising horse and he was well backed before obliging over C&D last month. He showed a nice turn of foot on that occasion and has now won 2 from 3 starts. He is progressive and with more to come should follow up against these.
Wolf Of Badenoch also likes this C&D having made a winning start back in June. He was beaten at Goodwood but bumped into Aomori City which is solid form so he looks the danger.
Chester 2.05
After an encouraging enough reappearance at Ascot LA YAKEL came forward again to win easily at Hamilton last month. He stayed on strongly through the line and was good value for that win so no surprise to see him up to Listed level here. Conditions will be to his liking again and he is the one to beat.
Al Qareem is also proven when the mud is flying so does look the danger as the betting is suggesting as that was a good run behind Al Aasy at Newbury last month.
Doncaster 2.25
A fiercely competitive renewal of the Portland with it 7/1 the field at the time of writing. No great surprise to see SHAGRAAN top the betting as he looks a sprinter to follow right now. He has won 2 of his last 3 and was nicely on top to beat Jer Batt at Haydock last week. He is up 3lb but likely has further improvement to come.
Tons of dangers and if the ground continues to dry out Albasheer could be a danger. He has top-weight but we know he is very talented when things drop right. He isn’t the easiest of rides though. Jm Jungle and Apollo One complete the shortlist.
Chester 2.40
I’m taking a chance on SPIRIT MIXER following up here. Andrew Balding is in terrific form and this horse impressed winning over C&D last month. He is up 4lb and in a better race but is thriving right now and if he races prominently again he might always be in the right position to pounce on them.
Tashkhan blew out at York but that is understandable as it was a tough race. This is easier but he still needs to show more to get involved. That might leave Vera Verto as a greater danger as she has been knocking on the door.
Doncaster 3.00
I have this between the top 2 in the betting and I’m hoping KINROSS can get back to winning ways. He hasn’t been running badly this season and if building on that running on third behind Audience in the Lennox Stakes then he will be a big player in this. He is versatile regarding the ground too so lots going for him.
Lead Artist did well beating King’s Gamble at Glorious Goodwood and would be a threat especially if getting to the front back down to 7f. Poet Master is another one to note in a good renewal.
Doncaster 3.40
Time for the big one now the St Leger and I’m going to take a chance on YOU GOT TO ME improving again to win this. This filly is bred to keep progressing with age and experience and I thought she was a bit unlucky to get beat by Content in the Yorkshire Oaks last time. She didn’t see that rival until late and didn’t have a chance to come again. The fact she beat her at the Curragh before that says a lot and I can see her relishing this trip so she gets the vote.
Illinois is obviously greatly respected for Aidan O’Brien and only missed a neck to stablemate Los Angeles at York. Jan Brueghel also represents Aidan O’Brien and is improving fast so is another danger.
