Newmarket 1.15
A tricky race to kick off ITV Racing on Saturday and a tentative vote goes to MAGIC LOVE for Harry Charlton. The yard are going great guns and had another winner in Time Lock yesterday. This filly by Starspangledbanner impressed winning on handicap debut at Thirsk last time and while she is 6lb higher and obviously in a better race she could improve for the extra furlong and is a decent each way bet.
Ghost Run showed a good attitude to prevail at Doncaster when last seen and has now won 2 of her last 4 so looks the danger. She has gone up 5lb but under positive tactics might be hard to catch especially in this ground.
I am really keen on WHISKEY PETE getting himself back in the winners enclosure here. This flashy chestnut was back to form chasing home Brioni at Ascot at the start of the month and with the drop back to a mile likely to be a big positive I think he could prove hard to beat off a mark of 87. He was in winning form when last seen over this distance and remains unexposed over it.
Skipper has only had four starts and impressed getting the job done at Chelmsford last month so could be the danger with further progress to come. Earls goes well in testing ground and is another one who can get competitive especially if anymore rain falls.
Newmarket 1.50
This looks like a decent renewal of the Royal Lodge Stakes and while Luther looked quite exciting winning at Haydock last time I do feel WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE is better value. The latter bumped into next years Guineas favourite The Lion In Winter when an excellent second at York last month and with further improvement a near certainty stretching out to a mile I think he can get back to winning ways.
Luther has won 2 from 3 and was nicely on top at Haydock so is the danger but Puppet Master deserves a mention given Aidan O’Brien is in red-hot form and also at a bigger price Royal Playwright should enjoy the trip and can run into a place.
Newmarket 2.25
I’m looking forward to seeing BABOUCHE back out as she bids to make it a perfect 4-4. She hasn’t put a hoof wrong so far and again impressed with how she knuckled down to get the better of Whistlejacket in the Phoenix Stakes in Ireland last month. She travels so well and I can just see her tanking there again before asserting in the closing stages.
Lake Victoria is the only other unbeaten filly in the field and is probably the danger for Aidan O’Brien. She beat Simmering at the Curragh last time which is obviously very good form and if the drop back in trip doesn’t count against her she will run well.
Curragh 2.35
It is hard to oppose Hotazhell in regards to form as he has been very solid winning here and at Leopardstown before bumping into Henri Matisse. The question mark with him is going up to a mile for the first time in such a strong race. I’ve decided to chance TRINITY COLLEGE in opposition. This Dubawi colt just kept galloping to win at Galway and could have plenty more to come yet.
Windlord impressed winning head in chest at York and could improve again and run well but this is a lot tougher now in Group company. Lambourn is yet to taste defeat having won both starts but again this is a big step up and he wears blinkers for the first-time which is offputting.
Newmarket 3.00
With two stablemates at the top of the betting the market is always going to be fairly informative and it is all over WHISTLEJACKET who has stable jockey Ryan Moore in the saddle too. He was impressive winning the July Stakes at Newmarket and then bumped into Babouche at the Curragh before resuming winning ways in France last month. He could still have more to come and is the one to beat.
Stablemate Ides Of March impressed winning readily at the Curragh last month and arrives on a hat-trick so looks the danger. I expect it to be a 1-2 for the yard. Shadow Of Light still has potential but needs to improve again as this is a tough ask.
Haydock 3.15
I am hoping WILTSHIRE can give weight and a beating to these. This progressive 4yo has now won 3 of his last 4 and he was nicely on top to win at Newcastle when last seen. He has been given time since and can improve again given his unexposed profile so despite a 6lb rise looks the one to beat. This is competitive but he’ll get a good pace to run down which is a big plus.
Jer Batt has won over C&D in the past and was back to form when denied just half a length by the progressive Shagraan when last seen at the start of the month. If he builds on that off the same mark he looks the danger. Aberama Gold is another one likely to be bang there.
Newmarket 3.40
I know there have been a few upsets in recent years in the Cambridgeshire but I’m looking towards the top of the betting this time around and ROI DE FRANCE looks to have been laid out for this. He was beaten on handicap debut at Yarmouth but wasn’t given a hard time of things and actually seemed to travel best in that. He has more to come and the yard have won it with similar types in the past.
Godwinson is also a horse on the up winning gamely at Goodwood last month and if he gets the gaps when coming through could be the one to give him the most to think about. Poniros is right down the bottom of the weights and is another one I can see going well back down in trip.
