It looks a fiercely competitive renewal of the Kentucky Derby but having said that I still fancy JOURNALISM to take all the beating. This colt has won 4 in a row since finishing third on debut. He has just got better and better every run and convincing put Baeza away at Santa Anita last month. He has had a perfect prep and granted usual luck in-running should be the one hitting the line strongest. He seems to have a perfect blend of speed and stamina and has all the characteristics requited to win a Kentucky Derby.
Given the nature of the race and the each way places on offer due to the sheer amount of runners I’m going to chance BURNHAM SQUARE to run a nice race for Ian Wilkes. I thought he showed a likeable attitude to edge out East Avenue at Keeneland and he has won 3 of his last 4. He will keep galloping when the others have cried enough so at around 14/1 in the betting he can get competitive. Obviously plenty of dangers probably headed by Sovereignty for William Mott who was beaten at Gulfstream but his form before that is decent and he has more to come after just a handful of starts. Baeza ties in with the jolly so is also respected.
