Newbury 1.50
A fiercely competitive opener to kick off ITV on Saturday! I’m going to chance OKEECHOBEE putting his best hoof forward. He was just a bit too keen when only fourth at Kempton but if settling better back on turf his Sandown win would give him a big shout in this.
I don’t fully trust Enfjaar so Rashabar could be the danger. He was fourth behind Field Of Gold latest and goes up in trip now.
Market Rasen 2.05
Despite taking a walk in the market I can still see DEPLOY TO SPY running well here. He travelled and jumped rivals silly to win at Worcester last month and in first-time cheekpieces could have more to come so looks a decent price to follow up under Sean Bowen.
Mostly Sunny is a decent yardstick and he has been running well since winning at Plumpton so don’t be surprised to see him threaten most.
Newbury 2.25
The market has been all over the place for this but I can’t help but feel ARTISTIC STAR is overpriced. I just don’t think he saw out the trip behind Ascending at Royal Ascot and back down to near 2 miles here should suit so he could bounce back with a big run.
Wild Waves is definitely feared as he ran well when third to Sober last month and still looks capable of a bigger performance back slightly in trip too.
Market Rasen 2.40
Any of 5 or 6 could win this but I do like the chances of GOBLET OF FIRE for Nicky Henderson and James Bowen. This 5yo won with plenty to spare at Hereford on return and then wasn’t disgraced in a good race at Haydock finishing third. He has more to offer and this could pan out favourably too.
Cavern Club is still just a 5yo and I liked the way he toughed it out to win at Chester. Back over hurdles under patient tactics he looks the danger.
Newbury 2.57
The rain seems to have missed Newbury so there shouldn’t be any excuses for REGIONAL and despite the drift I think he can win this. He doesn’t know how to run a bad race and again was right in the firing line when third behind American Affair at Royal Ascot last month. Looks sure to go close!
Elite Status obviously won this last year but he has been somewhat underwhelming so far this season and needs to bounce back to win this again.
Market Rasen 3.12
The gamble has been on Ballysax Hank with Harry Cobden booked but I can see SURE TOUCH defending his crown. He won this last year off 1lb higher and despite struggling for form when last seen he has been freshened up and back at this track could spark back into life.
Courtland isn’t getting any younger but he showed he was in good form finishing third at Cartmel and is 9lb below his last winning mark now.
Newbury 3.30
I’m keen to oppose Havana Hurricane as he just looks too short at the top of the market. This feels like a bit of an after thought and there is each way value to be had. I was at Windsor when OUR CODY won and she did that well. She can improve again and is going under the radar somewhat.
Kamakameleon is a well built colt and he only has a couple of lengths to make up with the jolly so could run a big race at a nice price.
Curragh 3.40
Impossible to oppose MINNIE HAUK and the betting is very much reflecting that. She holds the second favourite Wemightakedlongway on that Epsom form and she should continue to improve herself so the four-timer looks on the cards.
It is a shame a Classic like this is going to be somewhat of a non event. I expect them to finish in betting order. Not much more to add.
