A really tricky opener on ITV on Wednesday and I’ve taken a chance on the outsider of the entire field in TATTERSTALL for Michael Dods. This 5yo hasn’t been seen for 356 days but he has won fresh before and he could end up surprising a few here.
Trefor has been backed in now but does look the biggest danger. He needs to settle but has some strong form in the book.
York 2.25
I was at Newmarket when DISTANT STORM made a winning debut and I thought he impressed with how he got back on top at the line. The form really couldn’t have worked out any better with the second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth all winning since. He looks sure to improve and is expected to be hard to beat again.
Italy bumped into Saba Desert in the Superlative last time and has scope to go on improving for a while yet so looks the obvious danger.
York 3.00
I know there has been a lot of talk regarding LAMBOURN and whether he’ll be fully fit but even so I still think he can beat this field. He has gone from strength to strength and this dual Derby hero still has further improvement to come. He has been freshened up since the Curragh and has plenty going for him.
Carmers is unbeaten having won 3-3 and if getting the trip could be the danger. The rest seem to have a lot to prove.
York 3.35
I can’t wait to see OMBUDSMAN out again. I thought he got mugged by Delacroix in the Coral Eclipse and I fancy him strongly to reverse that form here. He was impressive at Royal Ascot prior to that and if back to that form should have too much for these rivals.
Delacroix can still do better himself so should make a race of it again. See The Fire likes York and is not completely out of it either.
York 4.10
I can see the step up to 2 miles really suiting SANTORINI STAR so she should go close under Tom Marquand. She had excuses at Pontefract and ran well in defeat at Fairyhouse. There is further improvement to come and she is understandably proving popular in the betting.
Dancing In Paris has been a model of consistency and is respected once more. Alphonse Le Grande should also get involved.
