I’m siding with the most unexposed horse in the field in the opener in the shape of KHAFIZ for Roger Varian. This 3yo has only had 4 starts winning 2 of them. He was handed a tough ask in Group company in France latest and now handicapping should get back on track here.

Thunder Roar has run well the last twice and if building on that last run is likely to emerge as the biggest danger here.

I know we haven’t seen MONTASSIB for nearly a year now but he is a horse that goes particularly well fresh and his trainer William Haggas spoke positively about him earlier in the week. He would have a massive chance on his best form so don’t underestimate.

Rage Of Bamby is a tough and likeable mare and she topped her form winning the Hackwood. She looks the main threat to the selection.

Andrew Balding often targets this race and he has a great chance this year with progressive colt ALMERIC. This good looker has won 2 from 3 and impressed at Newmarket when last seen. He has more to come again over a mile and a quarter and is worth keeping on side.

King’s Gambit has his own mind but on his best would be a danger. Liberty Lane needs to bounce back but is also respected.

After just 6 starts CASTLE COVE could have more to come. He won at Chester in soft ground on return and then has shaped well in defeat the last twice. This trip could easily bring about further progression and at a nice each way price he should run a good race.

Beylerbeyi powered home at Doncaster and if given a better ride might have won so could threaten. Stressfree is also noted.

Progressive filly NARIKO could be primed for a big run here for Hugo Palmer. She has won 4 of her last 5 now and showed a really good attitude again at Hamilton when last seen. Freshened up with this the target I can see her going close under Oisin Murphy.

Candy was a good fourth at Ascot last time and if building on that could be a player. At a bigger price Sondad has a squeak as well.

Buick has been riding like a demon lately and this looks a significant jockey booking on DEFIANCE. This 4yo ran well to finish third behind Westridge at Goodwood and then was only beaten 2 lengths at Hamilton. He looks primed to go close against these.

Theory Of Tides is unexposed and was back to form when fourth at York so if building on that again could threaten the selection.

Richard Fahey often targets the Firth Of Clyde and CATCHING THE MOON could run a big race for the yard this year. She bumped into Awaken on debut at Leicester and then improved to win in good style at Beverley. She has more to come and should go close.

Coming Attraction arrives on a hat-trick and if improving again could threaten. Dandana is another one likely to be in the mix.

That debut win from INTO THE SKY was mightily impressive. He has been snapped up by Doreen Tabor since and with more to come could make it 2-2 against these. He is a very exciting prospect and looks a horse that could go right to the top.

Words Of Truth is no mug having won his last 2 and if improving again could be the threat. Rock On Thunder is another one to note.

I love the Ayr Gold Cup and I can see AIN’T NOBODY going close for Kevin Ryan. This colt beat all bar Asfoora in the Nunthorpe and is better than he showed in the Sprint Cup last time. This track could suit and he is going under the radar somewhat back in a handicap.

Twilight Calls is back down the weights and has Warren Fentiman claiming 5lb so could hit the frame. Northern Ticker is a big threat.
