This is the biggest mismatch on the board so far, Curacao are the smallest nation ever to reach a World Cup and Germany should be out of sight, which is why I’m taking them on the -2 handicap rather than a skinny straight win. Curacao will be chasing shadows and that tends to mean cards, while Havertz leads the line and should get on the scoresheet against a defence at this level. Gaari has a lot of defending to do and 1+ foul looks nailed on. 5/2 is a strong price for a result I’m very confident about.

This is the one I’ve been looking forward to. Japan are my dark horses for the whole tournament and I don’t expect them to roll over against the Dutch, so Japan to score is the anchor, they carry a real threat in transition. They press hard and put a foot in, which brings the 2+ cards into play, and Kamada is right in the thick of that midfield battle. Gakpo is the Dutch danger man and 1+ shot on target for him makes sense too. 15/4 is a tasty price on a game I think Japan make uncomfortable.
Ecuador are the other side I’ve been banging the drum for and this is a proper test against a physical Ivory Coast. I see it staying tight, so under 3.5 goals fits, and these two going at it should mean plenty of cards, with Ecuador’s combative streak getting them into the book. Ivory Coast will see plenty of the ball and the corners that come with it, and Caicedo plays right on the edge in that holding role, so a card for him is no surprise. 13/2 is a big price but every leg is rooted in how I expect a cagey game to go.
One for the very late night at 3am, but Sweden have the firepower to make it worth it. Gyokeres has been unplayable at club level and I’m backing him to carry it onto the big stage and find the net, with Sweden taking the win. Tunisia are well organised but tend to rack up the fouls and cards when they’re under pressure, so 2+ Tunisia cards rounds it off, and I fancy enough quality for over 2.5 goals. 9/2 is cracking value if Gyokeres turns up like I think he will.
