I’m expecting Spain to rack up the goals so over 2.5 is the anchor, and a stretched Cape Verde defence chasing the ball tends to mean cards. Belgium have the firepower to open up an Egypt side that will sit in and try to frustrate, so I expect enough quality for over 1.5 goals. De Bruyne remains the man who makes them tick and rarely goes a game without testing the keeper, so 1+ shot on target for him is a strong leg. Uruguay are one of the dark horses for this tournament and have far too much quality for Saudi Arabia, so I’m backing them to find 2+ goals. Valverde drives them forward from midfield and loves a shot from distance, so 1+ on target is a banker for me. This is the sort of physical midfield battle where fouls come thick and fast, and both Kanno and Bentancur are right in the middle of it. 11/4 is good value on a game I expect Uruguay to win at a canter.
One for the night owls at 2am, but Iran are a well drilled side who I fancy to edge a tricky New Zealand outfit, so the win is the anchor. Taremi is their main man and a real handful, so 1+ shot on target for him makes sense, while Wood carries the Kiwi threat almost single handedly and will get his looks too. With both forwards firing I expect enough for over 1.5 goals. 9/2 is a strong price on a game Iran should have the tools to win.
