Melbourne Cup Tips 2026: Best Bets for Every Race at Flemington
The race that stops a nation. I’ve got four each way bets in the Melbourne Cup, a selection in every race on the Flemington card, an unbeaten NAP and a 9/2 win double.
Tips are opinion, not guarantees. 18+
HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR? It’s one big meeting after another and Melbourne Cup Day is always one I set the alarm for. The Cup itself goes off at 4am UK time, with the first race just before midnight on Monday.
Picking the Cup winner is never easy but there’s plenty of value if you know where to look. I’ve worked through the whole card, from the leading fancies to the bigger prices, and flagged the main danger in every race. Every price drops straight into your bet365 slip.

Not much form to go on in the opener. Royal Press sets the standard after finishing second at Caulfield last month, but I’m taking a chance on debutant AMSTERDAM for Ciaron Maher.
He’s well bred, he didn’t come cheap and connections will be hoping for a big run first time up.

YAUSON will take a lot of beating. He’s won three times already and was only just denied a hat-trick at Caulfield last month.
Jordan Childs will push forward and if he gets into a nice rhythm without being taken on too early, he should have too many gears for these.

Star Of Macedon and Waiheke Rose both look beatable, so I’m with FRINGILLA. She only finished fifth at Caulfield but was beaten just a couple of lengths, and I think there’s a bigger run in her.
Dropping in grade here, she can take full advantage.

Arguably the toughest race on the card, so I want one at a price. SEMANTICS caught the eye when third on debut and then came back with a convincing win at Bendigo last month.
This is a much better race, but she’s going the right way and could be a big player if she improves again. 8/1 each way.

Another tough one, and a tentative vote goes to the consistent TEMPESTI for Gavin Bedggood. He was beaten less than a length when second in the St Leger at Randwick last month.
Another run like that puts him right in the mix. 6/1 each way.

This trip looks ideal for SABAJ and I expect him to get back to winning ways. He was only midfield at Caulfield but was beaten just three lengths after a far from ideal run.
It should pan out better here and, as the betting says, he’s the most likely winner by a distance. My Next Best.

The big one, and I’m hoping to keep my record going in this race because it’s been hugely profitable over the years. It’s as competitive as ever, so with the extra each way places on offer I’m backing four against the field.
My main hope is TRUSTYOURINSTINCT for Joseph O’Brien. He’s been hinting at a big run for a while and with James McDonald booked he looks the yard’s leading hope. HOPEWELL ROCK has to be in there too. He’s only had ten starts, he looks progressive and his closing style is perfect for this.
At bigger prices, don’t judge JAMES J BRADDOCK too harshly on that run at Leopardstown. He’s much better than that and could surprise a few at 18/1 if he’s travelled well. KIZLYAR failed to fire in the Moonee Valley Cup but stepping up in trip could bring his stamina into play. 40/1 is too big.

My NAP. The day is all about the Cup, but I can’t wait to see unbeaten RANARSSON again. He bolted up on debut at Cranbourne and followed up convincingly last month.
He looked impressive and the clock backed it up, which is really encouraging. There’s more to come and he should stay unbeaten.
05:35 Flemington: Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes Tips
This race revolves around SHADHAVAR. He was impressive at Caulfield last month and his form stacks up, so if he handles the quick turnaround he’s the one to beat.
He has a nice mix of speed and stamina, and if he gets loose in front they’ll struggle to catch him.

A tricky finale with four or five in with a chance. EVERAIN ran well after a long break when fourth at Geelong last month.
If he comes on for that he could have a big say. He’s still lightly raced with more to offer. 5/1 each way.
My Melbourne Cup Day Win Double
I’m really keen on SABAJ over this trip in Race 6 and I’ve doubled him with unbeaten colt RANARSSON in Race 8. His visual impression has been backed up by the clock, so he should complete the hat-trick.
Add Sabaj + Ranarsson double9/2RANARSSON is the bet of the day with SABAJ right behind him. In the Cup, I’m with TRUSTYOURINSTINCT and HOPEWELL ROCK at the top end, plus JAMES J BRADDOCK and KIZLYAR at big prices with the extra places. SET THOSE ALARMS AND LET’S HAVE A BIG ONE!
