Curragh 4.40 EBF Maiden Stakes (1m2f)
This looks a wide open maiden where plenty will have improved a lot since last seen. We are going with LOUGH CUTRA based on the form we have already seen and her last run behind Russian Emperor was franked when that horse finished second in a Group 3 on Tuesday (probably should have won). She will have more to come and should go well in this.
The O’Brien’s have plenty in here and with Heffernan on Serpentine you have to take note but I think Beggy’s ride Dawn Rising could be the best of the rest against my pick.
Newbury 4.55 Handicap Stakes
A competitive handicap up first from Newbury. The market seems to revolve around Society Lion for Sir Michael Stoute. He impressed with the way he quickened away from them at Yarmouth but this is much deeper and at the price he’s worth taking on I think. SEA VOICE ran in that red-hot race at Salisbury on debut which Kenzai Warrior won. It produced loads of next time out winners and the selection was one of them. Despite finishing last he improved to win at 25/1 at Chepstow. He probably came on again to finish second here last time and can do even better as a 3yo. 12/1 is just too big (was 14’s) and I’m happy to row in each way in a race like this.
The favourite is definitely a danger and at a bigger price King Of Arms should go well for Mark Johnston. He is by Kingman and can also improve so has to be feared based on what he’s already achieved.
Curragh 5.10 Equine MediRecord Handicap (6f)
This one revolves around NORDIC PASSAGE who is turned out quickly after bolting up on Monday. He must have come out the race well and the trainer probably fancies a quick-fire double, as do we. He is unexposed on turf with just two runs (win and a second) and could easily have more to come on the surface. If running like he did at Naas a 6lb penalty won’t stop him going in again.
Ice Cold Alex would have to be the main danger as he placed in every run last season including three times at the Curragh. He will like the fast ground and should run a place again.
Newbury 5.25 MansionBet’s Royal Ascot Special Handicap Stakes
I really fancied BEAR FORCE ONE to go close on return and while he was disappointing it wasn’t actually that bad of an effort on reflection. He was beaten a little over four lengths but plenty went wrong in the race and he looks sure to improve physically for that. It was his first run for 198 days so should tighten up. His previous form is very promising and if he bounces back he is a danger to all. I think the traders made an error introducing him at around 16/1 but that didn’t last for long and he is about right at 9/2 now. Might drift a bit before the off but that wouldn’t worry me. If you wanted some more insurance you could go each way. Looking forward to a big run!
Blue Mist is lightly raced and shaped well on his final start behind War Glory in August. Could do better now and is probably well handicapped. A bit short at 9/4 though I do respect him. Jackstar is another danger but he is yet to really prove it on turf so is best watched for now.
Curragh 5.40 Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Handicap (7f)
This looks an ultra competitive handicap with the majority of the field still unexposed. UNITED FRONT was pitched in against Pinatubo last year which shows the yard think a bit of him and has seemingly come on over the winter based on his win in March at Dundalk. He should take all the beating up to 7f which should only bring out further improvement.
Siamese and Layfayette would be the two who could lay down a challenge and I would expect a lot more improvement from them as the season goes on.
Newbury 5.55 Watch and Bet with MansionBet at Newbury Handicap Stakes
This is fiercely competitive but FUTURE INVESTMENT catches the eye at 8/1 for Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan. He wasn’t beaten far off this mark in a strong handicap at York when last seen. The drop back in trip looks a good move and he still looks to have more to offer. Genetics and Island Brave are likely to push forward and make this a test which will suit the selection. The stable are operating at a 25% strike rate too which is another positive.
Away He Goes is favourite but looks too short to me. A mark of 95 looks no gift so while he is on the upgrade I think he’ll find this tougher. Laafy is the one I fear most. He has plenty of ability and still has scope off this mark. Definitely the danger.
Curragh 6.10 Gallinule Stakes (Group 3) (1m2f)
Aidan O’Brien has dominated this race over the years (won 7 of the last 10) and MYTHICAL gives him another great chance. He ended last season placing in a Group 1 and a run of that nature should win this. We haven’t seen him yet this year but if making the normal step forward from 2 to 3 he should be the one to beat again.
Aidan’s son Joseph sends out Crossfirehurricane which is the main danger. He is unbeaten in lesser company but may still have a fair bit to come so could get competitive.
Newbury 6.25 MansionBet’s Beaten by a Head Handicap Stakes
Aweedram isn’t the most straightforward but is clearly talented so would be a danger if channelling that in the right direction. At a bigger price Lunar Jet might hit the frame. Well treated on best.
Curragh 6.40 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas (Group 1)
The Irish 2000 Guineas is such an intriguing race. As you know we love Siskin however we can’t be 100% sure he will be as good at a mile so happy to take him on with ARMORY at the prices. He had great form as a 2yo and a fair bit of it has been franked including by Victor Ludorum showing his true colours recently in France and on that form over the mile he should go close in this.
Lope Y Fernandez you get the vibe that the shorter trips will be more up his street. I can see him chasing home Siskin and Armoury with our selection by Galileo outstaying them all.
ITV Racing Win Trixie
Given there are 9 races live on ITV Racing on Friday night we have placed a Win Trixie on our three most confident selections on the evening.
ITV Racing Each Way Double
Here you can find our Each Way Double for the races live on ITV this evening. These are two horses we fancy strongly at decent prices to make a big double.
