York 1.55 William Hill King Charles II Stakes (Listed Race)
I do think Ventura Rebel will run well here and he is probably the value play in the race but I can’t get away from the unbeaten BOCCACCIO for Charlie Appleby. I loved the way he knuckled down to fend off Gifted Ruler at Newmarket and he looks to be progressing with experience. He will need another step forward here to take this out but seems to have been brought along gradually and he is definitely my selection in the race.
Symbolize is another to note as he is a likeable colt who ran a big race when third to Molatham in the Jersey. Can step forward from that and get involved here.
Newbury 2.15 bet365 Handicap
Royal Ascot form on show here and it was hard to miss NAHARR‘s front running effort in the Silver Wokingham. He stays further than 6 furlongs and they clearly made use of that at Royal Ascot. I expect more of the same in this and he could be hard to pass off a mark of 94 which looks very good in a lesser race.
Dazzling Dan at a double figure price could be the danger. He is back down to his last winning mark of 99 and could run a big race on previous form.
York 2.30 William Hill Extra Places Every Day Handicap
A tricky sprint now and we’ve taken two against the field. ARECIBO is favourite for O’Meara and he looks to have good claims. He hasn’t won for a while but has some decent efforts in defeat and his mark looks workable again. Plenty in favour here so has to go close!
Our second play in the race is DANZENO who looked as good as ever when beaten just over three lengths in the Wokingham behind Hey Jonesy. A similar effort would see him involved here and 8/1 makes plenty of each way appeal. Plenty of dangers obviously but Copper Knight probably heads them. Mighty Spirit another to note at a slightly bigger price.
Newbury 2.50 Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes
Just the 26 runners for the Super Sprint so like the big handicap yesterday we are going with two in this race. It is hard to get away from the form of GET IT who ran really well behind Tactical at Royal Ascot who has franked the form in good style since. A run at the level he has produced so far could be enough to win this let alone the improvement that is still to come.
LULLABY MOON impressed when quickening clear on debut at Goodwood and with a bit of improvement from that run he should go well. The low draw in 6 looks a positive with pace middle to low in this.
York 3.05 William Hill Summer Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3)
Jovial is improving and she will have her supporters but I’m happy to oppose and BREATHTAKING LOOK might be worth chancing to bounce back. This Bated Breath mare was beaten just a length by subsequent July Cup winner Oxted on return and while she failed to back that up in the Diamond Jubilee last time she is the type to bounce back and might be worth forgiving her that. She is a decent price at 13/2 and can be backed each way.
Maid In India was a Listed and Group 3 winner last season and ran well when third at Haydock on return. Flopped at Sandown but can’t have been right so heads the dangers if like the selection she managed to bounce back.
Newbury 3.25 bet365 Steventon Stakes (Listed Race)
Interesting race with just one win between all of these this season and the horse with that win is our selection GLOBAL GIANT. He won well on the all-weather in January and was a tad unlucky on return to the track in a Listed race at Sandown having to circle the field and will be better for that run. With a better position from stall 1 he should be thereabouts.
With the favourite Fox Tal and Pablo Escobarr likely to set decent fractions the danger could be Faylaq who will come late with our selection. May well be worth an each way saver.
Curragh 3.45 Holden Plant Rentals Sapphire Stakes (Group 2)
There have been a few taking performances since racing restarted and A’ALI’s win at Sandown was right up there. He beat a very good horse in Liberty Beach by a length and a repeat of that should be enough to win this. The time of the race made the performance even better and looks a solid favourite for this.
Make A Challenge is an obvious danger with 4 wins at the Curragh which is hard to ignore and it should be these two fighting out the finish.
Newbury 4.00 Marsh Cup (Handicap)
Plenty of the Northumberland Plate field re-opposing each other here. It’s a shame the second that day Australis was declared a non-runner as he would have had a decent chance. Reshoun could fair the best in his absence from that race however I am siding with SELINO who ran a great race behind the well fancied Fujaira Prince at Royal Ascot on his seasonal debut. Back up to 2 miles and fitter for that run, should take all the beating.
Blue Laureate disappointed at Royal Ascot but if back in form could out-run his price-tag. True Destiny and Themaxwecan are also feared in a competitive renewal.
Curragh 4.15 Kilboy Estate Stakes (Group 2)
I’m looking forward to seeing Raven’s Pass filly LEMISTA here for Ger Lyons. She brought up the hat-trick at Gowran Park last time and seems to be getting better and better. That was a career best and she was nicely on top at the line. With the promise of more to come she is well worth a crack at this level and looks the most likely winner if taking another step forward.
One Voice beat Snow at Leopardstown last time and that’s a good bit of form so she should emerge as the main threat to the selection. Lovelier is by Galileo and should keep improving so is also one to note in a good race.
