Race 6 Newcastle 7.40 Mugatoo (6/5)
Smart gelding who has won seven times from thirteen starts; made it back-to-back wins at Rosehill last month and looks firmly on the upgrade right now; likes to swoop late from off the pace; proven over this trip so what’s not to like?
Sticking with the useful MUGATOO here for Kerrin Mcevoy and Kris Lees. He’s got a great strike rate and is five from seven in Australia. Too good for them in the Premier’s Cup off a five week break last time and is proven over 2400m chasing home Young Rascal on his sole attempt. Knows where the winning line is hard to pick holes in again. Hush Writer is the closest in the betting but he needs to find more to trouble the favourite. He won this race last year and should be fitter so looks nailed on for a place but just think the favourite is too good and will be hard to stop late. Paths Of Glory has won his last two and looks a tad overpriced. Fancied to fill third spot.

Race 5 Geelong 6.00 Frederick The Dane (6/4)
Likeable type who justified favouritism at Pakenham last month, beating Raazou; continues to improve with experience and no surprise to see him ridden forward here and look to dominate these rivals.
The improving FREDERICK THE DANE is taken to come out on top again. He made the breakthrough at the fifth attempt last time and continues to get better so with a nice make-up here should prove too good. He will look to gallop them into submission and hard to see what’s going to stop him. Shantara is lightly raced so could have more to offer but may need the run. Yankee Lou has knocked on the door the last twice since winning so also has to be respected. Ringfort sprung an upset at Donald so should build on that but this looks deeper. Hard to see much else getting involved but The Regiment shouldn’t be entirely overlooked either on all known form.
