Race 5 Moe 4.25 Californiafirebird (11/10)

Front-runner who has been freshened up and switched stables since he finished second over shorter at Hawkesbury last month; form very solid in the context of this race and be disappointing if he doesn’t take care of these.

This looks a great opportunity for CALIFORNIAFIREBIRD to get back to winning ways. His form stacks up and that was a good effort over shorter last time. Freshened up since he ticks plenty of boxes here and is strongly fancied to justify favouritism. Miss Sharp is the closest in the betting and she ran on really well at Ballarat last time having blundered at the start so that effort can be marked up and she’ll be fitter now. I still think she has a bit to find to trouble the favourite though and he will have first run so she may always be playing second fiddle. Last Dance was second at Sale last time but needs more off the bare face of that form. Hard to recommend much else in here at bigger prices.

Race 4 Lismore 4.32 Stars Are Trumps (2/1)

Recent form gives her every chance of making the breakthrough here; only beaten a couple of lengths last time and had a coming together; she is well drawn in 3 here and should prove tough to beat in a race that could be run to suit.

Chancing STARS ARE TRUMPS to make the breakthrough here. She has the form to come out on top and has been knocking on the door recently. A low draw helps and I can see her tracking the pace through before proving too strong in the closing stages. Alt Eff Four chased home Sam’s A Fox last time but had excuses and should put up the most resistance. Bulla Bulla is making her debut and I wouldn’t want to see too much support for her in opposition. She’ll need to be plenty forward to make a winning start though. Queens Do Dream needs more on what we’ve seen and I’m quite surprised she is as short in the betting as she is. Not a great race and the favourite should get off the mark.
