Newcastle 5.55 Conservatoire (6/4)

Dutch Art filly who is improving fast; comes here chasing a hat-trick after two convincing wins in testing ground at Goodwood and Doncaster; open to further progress and should be hard to beat if as effective on the AW.

I think it’s safe to say the handicapper let CONSERVATOIRE in lightly off an opening mark of 71. She is 11lb higher now as she seeks her third win in a row but she remains open to further improvement and is expected to have too much for these. She beat a progressive colt in Sir Maxi last time and that was a real likeable effort. Shanghai Rock put in a career best to open his account at Windsor last time and looks the biggest danger. Like the selection he remains open to further progress so has to be feared. Imperial Butterfly is also chasing a hat-trick but I think she needs more up 4lb again a smart looking filly in the favourite. It’s a good race that should throw up plenty of future winners.

Huntingdon 1.15 Somekindofstar (11/10)

Smart son of Getaway who shaped with plenty of promise when fifth on return over hurdles here; certainly looks a chaser so should have a bright future in this discipline; worth chancing.

With the original NB a non runner at Newcastle tonight we now head to Huntingdon on Tuesday afternoon and SOMEKINDOFSTAR is a strong fancy to make a winning start over fences. He would have blown the cobwebs away over hurdles on return and looks open to plenty of improvement now tackling these larger obstacles. Fibonacci was a big danger but he has been taken out now so it looks an even better opportunity on paper. Ratoute Yutty is off a career-low mark for her new yard so shouldn’t be entirely ruled out but she does have a fair bit to prove. Franz Klammer may emerge as the main danger now switched to fences. Again I’ll be surprised if he is good enough to win.
