Warwick 1.50 McCoy Contractors Civils And Infrastructure Hampton Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) 3m

Next Destination is likely to go off a short priced favourite here for Paul Nicholls and probably deservedly so given what he achieved as a novice hurdler and how well he won at Newbury last time. At a shade of odds-on he makes little appeal though and I’m going to chance FIDDLERONTHEROOF to spring the upset. I know he won the Tolworth over hurdles but he shaped as a stayer to me when rallying to get back up at Exeter and while he was put in his place by Caribean Boy at Newbury that wasn’t a bad performance at all and then he bumped into Allart at Ascot. I’m glad they’re stepping up to 3 miles now and I think we could see a different proposition. He looks good value at 9/4 and has to be the play.

Golan Fortune is the outsider of the three but he shouldn’t be entirely ruled out either as he is a talented horse himself and didn’t run a bad race when fourth to Shan Blue at Kempton last time and was a winner before that.

Market Rasen 2.05 MansionBet Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 2m1/2f

Interesting little handicap this one with just the 5 runners with a few of the higher rated horses with questions to answer it is worth siding with OSCARS LEADER. He just lost out on his last two starts this season and even though this is a harder race he gets weight from all of his rivals. He is very consistent with his form reading 11222 and his recent times put him right in the mix with these.

Edwardstone is clear fav at the time of writing and on old form he would justify his place at the top of the market but he hasn’t reached the heights of last season yet with a 7th on return to the track then he unseated his rider on chase debut last time. Langer Dan has also had a disappointing start to the the season after finishing 6th in the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival in March so needs this recent wind op to make a difference.

Warwick 2.25 Ballymore Leamington Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m5f

I found this race quite hard to dissect but one thing I was keen on was selecting a horse at a price. While I respect Make Me A Believer and Oscar Elite both will find this tougher and there just doesn’t look to be enough value at the front of the market given several of these could improve more. PURE BLISS is one of those and she comes here chasing a hat-trick herself and is 9/1 in the market at the time of writing. She is up in grade and taking on the boys now but there’s something about her style that makes me want to be a supporter and I think she’s going to go close.

Adrimel has cheekpieces applied now and is a live danger to the selection. I’m half tempted to back him as well but in a race like this I think I just want to take one at at a price against the field and feel content with that. Jay Bee Why was also prominent on my shortlist so I wouldn’t put you off him either – see why I found it hard to come down on just one horse.

Market Rasen 2.40 MansionBet’s Bet 10 Get 20 Hurdle (Class 2) 2m7f

This handicap has a touch of class about it and I have it between the two who we have seen running well on ITV Racing recently LIL ROCKERFELLER and On The Blind Side. The former ran a cracker after 370 days off to just lose out to the very well handicapped Hill Sixteen over 3 miles at Newbury. He should come on for that run and I expect him go very close in this.

On The Blind Side ran a cracker at Kempton last Saturday behind McFabulous and I would have had him as the selection but it is a big ask backing up just 7 days later (the shortest break he has had before is 19 days). The final horse who I think will be fighting out the places is Mohaayed who will like the pace set by the market principles.

I thought NOTACHANCE had a huge chance here. He is lightly raced for a 7yo and posted a career best winning at Bangor when last seen in November last year. I thought he jumped really well on that occasion and he looks a progressive horse now. The extra yardage doesn’t put me off and I think he’ll put a lot of these to the sword. THE HOLLOW GINGE was last seen unseating in the Welsh National but some of his previous form stacks up and I think at a double-figure price he’s going to run well too.

Captain Chaos is dangerous if getting into a rhythm as showed when second in this 12 months ago. The blinkers are back on and his mark has been falling so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him well punted in the market. Storm Control is so likely and comes here chasing a hat-trick but a further 5lb rise might be enough to find him out in a race as competitive as this.

Market Rasen 3.15 Alan Swinbank Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (Listed Race) 2m1/2f

Not usually a big fan of having a bumper on ITV but this one is better than most with all the horses in the field recording a win at least. Willie Mullins took this last year with a horse that went on to run in the Champion Bumper at the Festival and it has now recorded a few hurdle wins as well. He clearly likes this race for his better bumper horses and GRANGEE will have a good chance in this. She eased clear when winning her only race at Galway and even though the form of the race isn’t great she couldn’t have done it any easier. If a similar prospect to last years winner she will take some beating.

Merry Mistress looks the main danger with her easy win at Hereford looking good form with the horse in 2nd winning nicely since.

Warwick 3.35 Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 3m1f

Come On Teddy is likely to have his supporters here after winning well at Cheltenham last month. A 7lb rise makes life tougher though and while I’m quite sure he has more to offer I am going to take him on this afternoon. ARDLETHEN looks good value at around 12/1 for the Skelton’s. He was last seen falling over fences at Ascot but back over hurdles he looks feasibly treated to run a big race. He’ll be suited by a strong pace and there is a possibility Kepagge and The Macon Lugnatic will take each other on up front. That will set it up for a strong travelling horse like him and he just looks too big in the market.

The fav is obviously a big danger but Imperial Alcazar also has to be feared. He landed back-to-back wins beating good horses before finishing down the field at Haydock on return. Should strip fitter now and has to enter calculations.
