Newmarket 1.50 bet365 Handicap (Class 2) 6f
A wide open handicap to kick off ITV racing on Wednesday and it seems plenty of value on offer with it being 4/1 the field at the time of writing in an 11-runner race. CHIL CHIL is the one I quite like for this and I did expect him to be a few points shorter. He goes well fresh and has won over this trip at the track previously so it looks a great starting point for his season. He was last seen in October running behind the classy Harry’s Bar on the all weather and a run to that level which I think he can improve on back on the turf should see him go close.
Going Places is the danger as is fairly unexposed and comes here with fitness on his side after a win at Lingfield last month. My only doubt was he seems to want a bit further based on his form so far. Gunmetal looks to be in good form as well so I would expect him to be fighting out the places.
Cheltenham 2.05 Ballymore Silver Trophy Handicap Chase (Grade 2) 2m41/2f
Despite being caught out by the track last time and throwing the race away I’m keen to stick with THE BIG BITE here. This horse has progressive form beating a good field at Aintree before chasing home Ibleo at Doncaster. I think he had that race in the bag last time before the mishap and he can get back on track here. Not brilliant value in his price of 9/2 but probably a fair reflection given his chance. He is up to a career-high mark of 150 now but I still think he’s capable of better if he channels it right.
I know connections fancied Coole Cody to go close at the Festival last month but he could never get to the front where he is most effective and still ran a cracker closing right up for fourth at the finish. The form of that race is hard to fault with The Shunter backing it up since and the second Farclas acquitting himself well in the Grand National since. He looks the danger but Manofthemountain is also worth respecting.
Newmarket 2.25 bet365 European Free Handicap (Listed Race) 7f
This is an interesting handicap with some of these having questions to answer so I am happy to take on those at the top of the market with ROYAL SCIMITAR at an each way price. He has improved with every run so far and 2 of his last 3 runs have worked out really well including his last run which has seen New Mandate come out again and beat Ontario at the track in September in a Group 2. If he continues his improvement he will outrun his odds, especially as he is getting weight from 2 of the top 3 in the market.
We did love Tactical last season but he still needs to prove himself at the trip but goes well at Newmarket at least. Ontario would be a threat but carries top-weight in a tight race and Naval Crown was good in Meydan and will be one of the favourites but is up 4lb. Percy’s lad like the selection has improved with every run and produced some good times in the prices so I rate him as a main danger.
Cheltenham 2.40 Kingston Stud Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 2m41/2f
Proschema landed back-to-back wins before running creditably when fifth to Millers Bank at Newbury and with that horse finishing third to Abacadabras at Aintree since the form looks very solid. He could improve again for this trip so is the obvious danger. With Beauport a non runner now though there isn’t much juice in his price and I prefer QUINTA DO MAR at the prices. This horse has done well since going hurdling finishing third on debut at Market Rasen before improving to beat a progressive horse in Dobryn. He was then beaten a length by Here Comes McCoy but I expect him to reverse that form on handicap debut.
Proschema is obviously a danger but Captain Tom Cat might be looming as well. This track suits him well and he remains open to further progress having been freshened up. In a race as competitive as this both Java Point and Here Comes McCoy also made the shortlist.
Newmarket 3.00 bet365 Earl Of Sefton Stakes (Group 3) 1m1f
It was great to see GLOBAL GIANT line up here as he impressed us again when we backed him at Kempton latest and looks to be in top form after that 6 length romp. He is the best horse in the race and has proven fitness as plenty of these haven’t run since last year. He has ran well at Newmarket before and if in the same form as his Kempton run he will win this so at even money he doesn’t look too bad a price.
The main danger on form looks to be San Donato who was last seen chasing home Addeybb. He goes well fresh and if in the same form as that run he could make it interesting. Forest Of Dean is the other horse in the field with a recent run but he may have a bit to prove on turf but if still improving he could run well and pose some sort of a threat to the favourite.
Newmarket 3.35 Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Group 3) 7f
A Group 3 for Fillies’ to conclude ITV Racing on Wednesday and the unbeaten SAFFRON BEACH can make it 3-3 here for Jane Chapple-Hyam and Adam Kirby. This good looking filly made a bright start winning on debut over C&D in September and quickly improved to follow up at this level over the same C&D in October. She ran on well and was always doing enough in the closing stages to justify favouritism. This is tougher again on return given the quality of the field but she is exciting and I think she’ll complete the hat-trick.
Love Is You is also unbeaten and looks the danger. Roger Charlton’s filly has been a work in progress but the fact she has managed to win both starts says a lot and with another chunk of improvement to come she should go close. I just think the selection will be the more streetwise of the pair today but going forward she may well be one to follow so it will be interesting to see how much of a question she poses here. Divine Light won on debut but the form has been letdown since but she could still run well.
ITV Racing Each Way Double
With 6 races live on ITV Racing on Wednesday afternoon we have picked out two horses at decent odds we can see running well. If both place we should still make some nice profit so they’re worth including.
ITV Racing Win Trixie
We also have a Win Trixie on Wednesday afternoon. These are three horses we fancy strongly running live on ITV Racing. If 2/3 win we should still get a nice return.
