Longchamp 2.50 Emirates Poule D’Essai Des Poulains Group 1 Stakes 1m

A fascinating race with English Guineas winner Poetic Flare turned out fairly quickly after his nose victory at Newmarket at the start of the month. He has won 4 of his 5 starts now and is clearly progressing fast but I think there’s grounds to try and take him on here and Dewhurst winner ST MARK’S BASILICA catches the eye. This horse impressed with how much he found off the bridle the last day and with the step up to a mile potentially unlocking further improvement I’m keen to keep him on side. It will be interesting to see how this pans out tactically as Poetic Flare is likely to try and race prominently again and under patient tactics it could set up perfectly for St Mark’s Basilica to swoop late.

Sealiway was second to Policy Of Truth last time but it wouldn’t surprise me if he reversed that form. He is a lively shout to hit the frame but is going to need to find further improvement to trouble the front two in the betting. Mehmento ran huge when second in the Greenham and he might be capable of outrunning his odds again despite this requiring another step up.

Longchamp 3.25 Emirates Poule D’Essai Pouliches Group 1 Stakes 7f209y

I think it’s hard to fault MOTHER EARTH here for Aidan O’Brien. This filly ran on strongly to win the English equivalent at Newmarket and was well on top at the line. Given how busy she was as a 2yo I think she’s a horse that thrives on her racing and if she’s in the same form here it’s going to take a good one to beat her. Dubawi filly Philomene puts her perfect record to the test but she lacks experience and against a battle-hardened, in-form filly like the selection I think she’s going to find it tough in the closing stages. Hopefully they go a good gallop as the stronger the early pace I think the more it tilts it towards the selection as she will look to finish best under Christophe Soumillon.

Philomene does loom as a danger as mentioned but I do think lack if experience will ultimately cost her. Lullaby Moon catches the eye at a big price in terms of hitting the frame. She has won 3 of her last 4 and 4 of her 6 starts overall and while she is returning from a 197 day absence she goes well fresh and could run better than her odds suggest. Silvestri has been consistent and completes the shortlist.
