NAP – Best selection of the evening

THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS ON THE FLAT AT SANDOWN ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON!

Sandown 2.45 Hoodwinker (11/8)

Promising filly who improved to win on the AW in December and didn’t do a lot wrong just bumping into one on return at Haydock last month; open to further progress and looks well placed to return to winning ways.

I think HOODWINKER has the most potential in this field and I’ll be surprised if she’s beaten. She ran an encouraging race on return going down only narrowly to a race-fit rival and with further improvement a near certainty she has plenty going for her here. She is yet to race on ground as fast as this but it could help her step forward again so I see it as a positive rather than a negative. Celestial Queen won well at Redcar and backed that up to some extent at Ripon before things went badly wrong at Leicester. She should get back on track but I just think she’s bumping into one in the shape of the selection. Achelois best of the rest but she will find this much tougher than last time.

NAP

Sandown 2.45 Hoodwinker (11/8)

Chepstow 2.00 Gambon (6/4)

Likeable type who won here over 6f last year and has continued to run well this term finishing a creditable fourth over C&D last time; cheekpieces replace visor now and mark unchanged so this looks a good opportunity.

With just 5 horses heading to post here I make GAMBON a strong play for Eve Johnson Houghton. This 5yo won here last year and has been thereabouts in 3 starts to date since finishing down the field on reappearance. Cheekpieces replace the visor now and off an unchanged mark if he can show some more spark he won’t get many better opportunities than this to get back in the winners enclosure. King Of Tonga is not too dissimilar from the selection but I just get the impression with him he is more than happy to finish second or third. He hasn’t won since 2019 and even though this is a winnable race I think he’ll find the selection too strong when push comes to shove.
