Race 6 Finger Lakes 8.35 Night Cap (13/8)

Sleepy out the stalls and ran green shuffled about in rear early; good headway turning for home and fairly thundered home once the penny dropped in the straight to get there late; sure to know more now and hard to oppose.

I loved the way NIGHT CAP closed up late over the extended 5f here last month. That was her debut run and she just looked a bit clueless early before really finding her stride up the straight. With a furlong or so to go it looked a tough task but she went through the gears impressively to swoop late as the line loomed. She goes up to 6f tonight and with scope to improve she has to be a confident selection to remain unbeaten and make it 2-2. Gilda Marie has achieved a decent level of form and is one of the dangers but I’d be surprised if she wasn’t vulnerable to an improver like the selection. Crazy Delight wasn’t beaten far last time and is also capable of better so also has to enter calculations.

Race 6 Fort Erie 11.20 Free Speech (2/1)

Showed bright speed to make all the running and win impressively over track and trip last month; fitter now and this looks a good opportunity for him to go and follow up; can strike while the iron is hot.

It was hard not to be impressed by the way FREE SPEECH won over C&D on first start for 220 days. He was quick away and bagged the lead before going up through the gears. He galloped them into submission and never really looked in danger. I can see him adopting similar tactics tonight and if he matches that form up in grade he will have too much. He has won at a similar level to this in the past so should be up to the task. Jack Beanstalk won 3 starts back and has finished second twice since so looks one of the dangers. Kuduro is on a hat-trick but this looks tougher and he has to prove his effectiveness back on dirt. Time To Dance ties in on recent form lines so also has a squeak in this.
