NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) COULD DO WITH A WINNER AND RUNS AT CHELMSFORD TONIGHT!
Chelmsford 8.40 Chief Of Staff (6/4)
Promising type who showed plenty of encouragement when fifth on debut and improved to fill the same position next start doing too much early; ran on strongly to win well last time despite being keen; more to come on handicap debut.
This looks a good opportunity for CHIEF OF STAFF to follow up. This son of Dark Angel won despite doing plenty wrong last time and an opening mark of just 80 looks to underestimate him. He’ll need to improve again to win this but he looks to have plenty more to come. Hala Joud reacted well to the first-time cheekpieces last time but they aren’t certain to have the same effect again. Headingley is clearly talented but looks to have gone off the boil lately and is becoming expensive to follow. Frantoio is lightly raced and wasn’t disgraced last time but does need more. It wouldn’t surprise me if Toronado Grey put up the biggest challenge especially back on polytrack.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT NOTTINGHAM THIS AFTERNOON!
Nottingham 5.45 Abate (2/1)
Caught the eye when third at York and backed that up going down just a short head at Doncaster on penultimate start; ran flat last time but down in grade and back in trip now so reason to believe he could run a big race.
With just 5 horses heading to post I’m expecting ABATE to go close here. He was disappointing at York last time but his two previous runs were very good and back down to the minimum he could take a lot of stopping. He is just a 1lb above his last winning mark so certainly isn’t handicapped out of things if bouncing back to his best. Latin Five has only ever won once and he is second in the betting so that says a lot about the race. Outrage was a creditable second at Bath when last seen. He needs more on that but with Kingscote up he might be the threat to the fav. Bezzas Lad has won at this track before and didn’t run badly at Wolverhampton last time so shouldn’t be entirely ruled out either.
