NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT SOUTHWELL ON SUNDAY!
Southwell 2.10 Safra (7/4)
War Front filly who was only beaten a length on debut and quickly improved to get off the mark on just her second start at Kempton; found Listed company too hot at Sandown latest; this is much easier and should bounce back.
The NAP was back to winning ways yesterday as Hukum won the Geoffrey Freer Stakes again at Newbury. We’ll be looking to follow up on Sunday afternoon and while it might not be anywhere near the same quality of race SAFRA still looks a good bet to return to the winners enclosure. This daughter of War Front showed a good attitude to prevail at Kempton and while she blew out at Sandown last time that was in much tougher company and back on the AW down in grade she can regain the winning groove. Mystic Wells was seventh of twelve on debut at Newmarket last month but that maiden has worked out notably well so she is the obvious danger to the favourite if improving.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS OVER AT PONTEFRACT ON SUNDAY!
Pontefract 4.20 Flint Hill (3/1)
Stayed on well despite idling when winning over C&D on penultimate start and probably improved in defeat when beaten just a length at York last month behind the right horses; well placed to get back to winning ways here.
I think it’s hard to look past FLINT HILL here for Ruth Jefferson. This horse was seen winning over hurdles at Perth in April and transferred that ability back on the Flat winning convincingly over track and trip in June. That wasn’t the deepest of contests and while he was defeated at York I’d probably say he took another step forward going down just a length. Both Goobinator and Ghadbbaan are decent yardsticks and they would be fav for this if in the race so it looks a solid piece of form. 3/1 looks generous and I’ve snapped that up! Out Of Breath is on a remarkable run and made it 5 straight at Musselburgh last month but a further 4lb rise in a race like this could be a big ask.
