NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS AT CARLISLE ON TUESDAY NIGHT!
Carlisle 8.05 Buford (13/8)
Good looking sort who lengthened his stride between horses to win easily at Doncaster up in trip on return last weekend; up in trip again which will help and gets to run off the same mark; should follow up.
I know Detective was a bit unlucky last time as he jinked when looking to assert and was only denied a short head at the line. He is in great heart but a further 5lb rise is enough to put me off and I much prefer the progressive 3yo BUFORD for the red-hot Grant Tuer. This son of Lawman still looked to be learning on the job at Doncaster but he really stretched out well between horses to edge clear comfortably. Going up in trip again here looks a good move and given that was an apprentice event he goes unpenalised. Detective looks the one to keep him honest but Act Of Magic is also respected off the back of a good win at Ripon. He is up 2lb and will need more to trouble this favourite.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT LEICESTER ON TUESDAY NIGHT!
Leicester 6.25 Boogie Time (7/4)
Likeable type who won going away from a good yardstick at Doncaster last month and backed that up with a gutsy success at Nottingham last time; second has won again since so the form has been franked; hat-trick beckons.
I know this is quite a trappy race so you’re probably wondering why I’m so keen on BOOGIE TIME but his last two wins have been really convincing and while he only prevailed by a neck last time he was nicely in command and the second has won again since beating a good filly. A 4lb rise is perfectly manageable and the hat-trick very much looks on the cards. He is also uncomplicated so he’ll push forward and lead and it’s going to take a good one to peg him back. Dulla Bhatti looks the danger as he has improved with every run and makes his handicap debut. Off his current mark of 79 he will need to take a sizeable step forward to beat the selection but can give him most to think about.
