Newbury 4.40

A maiden with not much to go on to kick off the evening card at Newbury but one thing we do know is SENSE OF DUTY is a smart filly. Her debut run was eye-catching to say the least as she took her gap well when it came but was very green. She lost out by a head in what looked a decent Novice event and with the likely improvement it is going to take a very good newcomer to beat her.

Not many of the newcomers make that much appeal and you would expect the danger to be Brides Bay with Ryan Moore booked to ride for Richard Hughes. She wasn’t an overly expensive filly so I am not sure she will beat the selection on debut. Unless there is a sudden market move for one of the others I would firmly expect Sense Of Duty to go off odds-on and win this nicely.

Newbury 4.40

Sense Of Duty 8/11

Newbury 5.15

Quite a tight handicap but FANGORN has produced the best speed figures so he gets the nod. He was only beaten three-quarters of a length over C&D last time and with the field nicely strung out in behind I think he is suggesting his turn is near. He is up 2lb but with the yard hitting a winner yesterday I think he has a good chance to get his head back in front again.

Nine Tales landed back-to-back wins at Haydock and Salisbury before struggling on handicap debut at Chelmsford last time. Doesn’t look the most straightforward so if he does channel it in the right direction back on turf he could be a threat. Beloved is unexposed and deserves plenty of respect as well.

Newbury 5.45

With a short-priced favourite making the market it gives us a chance to take him on at a decent each-way price and I think ITKAANN can go very well here. He was last seen at the start of the month running behind Give It Some Teddy who has won again since. He was just under 2 lengths behind him that day and gets to run off of the same mark. The first-time application of cheekpieces could see a bit of improvement from Owen Burrows’ gelding and he looks to have a very good chance.

The favourite Troll Peninsula is the danger to all of these on his handicap debut and is potentially a Group horse in a handicap. He has won his last two but has been off the track since March so he can’t be easy to train. I would much rather be on our selection each way than take the risk on Troll Peninsula at a short price no matter how good he potentially is.

Newbury 5.45

Itkaann 9/1 each way

Newbury 6.15

I have to be honest I didn’t think Croupier would be as short as he is here. I know he can improve now handicapping but his opening mark certainly isn’t a given. He will be in the shake-up but 6/4 looks too short. I much prefer PENYWERN TAVERNER for Haggas. This Slade Power colt has been running well and with the cheekpieces on off a mark of 74 I think he is sure to go close.

Given the each way appeal of this race with a short priced fav I want to take on GAIUS is also worth including. He was only beaten 3 lengths at Windsor last time and if he improves he will be firmly in the mix. Mount Snowdon is a colt I’ve had my eye on for a while now but he needs to show more before I can back him again.

Newbury 6.45

This race looks pretty open and NIGHT MOMENT is a bigger price than I thought he would be. He is running in a slightly easier race than last time when finishing 3rd at Leicester. The winner of that race has gone on to run well in higher level handicap so the form looks rock solid. He has been dropped a pound for that run and with plenty more to come at this distance he has a great each-way chance.

Mushirif and Skytree at the dangers with the former running a cracker on the all-weather 2 weeks ago and if in the same form on turf will go well again here. Skytree looks to be improving plenty with each run and will always be thereabouts but his best run was on soft so the drying conditions may not see him at his best.

Newbury 7.15

The trackers are red-hot right now with our last 4 winning. This looks a great opportunity for the hat-trick seeking NOTEBOOK to strike again. I loved the way he swept into the lead last time and really lengthened away. He is up 7lb so this will be tougher but he looked well ahead of his mark the last day and with more to come I think he’ll go in again. The second French Conquest has strongly franked the form since winning convincingly at Bath last week which is another big plus.

Just Jacob is second favourite but he isn’t a horse I’m confident about as he looked outpaced last time before fading late so I’m not sure he is going to flourish over this trip. He doesn’t do anything quickly whereas the selection looks to have a nice change of gear when needed. Modestus is well bred and could be the danger in the cheekpieces again. Cheeky Az switches to turf for the first time and is also worth a second look as he could also improve.
