Ripon 5.25

I did initially like Havan Gold gelding Willard Creek but he has been taken out now so it looks a great opportunity on paper for Dark Angel filly ANGEL AMADEA to strike. She was a big eye-catcher on debut running on well once the penny dropped for third at a big price. I know she was expected to improve last time and she was backed accordingly but she still looked to be learning her trade for me and given she can progress back on turf now I think she has obvious claims in a winnable race.

Liberation Point showed ability in two starts for Richard Fahey and could take a step forward now switching to Mick Appleby. We haven’t seen him for 322 days though so it wouldn’t surprise me if he needed the run but still a danger given the potential he brings to the table. The rest need more time and experience with Cragside probably the best of them.

This sprint handicap is wide open with not many of them seemingly that well in. BUNIANN looks the one who could take advantage of being in a slightly easier race from his last run and went close last time he was in this grade at Doncaster. He goes well on any surface but his times suggest he might be better on good or slower and I think that could help him get his head in-front in a weak race.

The other one of interest is Qaaraat who is ultra-consistent on the all-weather and gets to run off a 5lb lower mark on turf. He doesn’t seem as good on the surface but is dangerous off this mark in a race at this level and will give the selection something to think about.

With the best recent form on offer I’ve got to side with VALUE TIP for Brian Ellison. This good looking chestnut got within a neck of winning at York last time and even his run when second to Goobinator looks really strong form for this level. I fancied him to reverse the form with Dance To Paris but that mare has been scratched now and Let Me Be has also been taken out so the race looks easier than it did beforehand. He remains unexposed over this trip so there should be further improvement to come.

Eagle Court was fourth in the race the selection finished second in last time so looks held on that form. He is a talented horse but doesn’t always channel it in the right direction. Land Of Winter could be a danger with the cheekpieces back on and he has been the one for money in the market.

Ripon 6.55

This looks like a decent handicap with plenty in with chances with SAFRAN the one I am siding with. He ran a big race over course and distance last week in a slightly better race than this and gets to run off the same mark again this week. The ground conditions should be in his favour and he looks as though this is a mark he can take advantage of and I expect him to go close.

The main dangers for me are also each way plays in the race as I think they could fill the places. Poet’s Dawn finished behind the selection here last week and gets a 5lb claimer to give him a swing at the weights. That said he might want less juice in the ground. Malhoob is the other who is a potential improver back at a mile. He has been gelded since flopping on handicap debut over 10 furlongs and he could have plenty to come over this trip.

I know KING VIKTOR was beaten 6 lengths at Southwell last time but the stop-start gallop went against him and the winner Lord Torranaga had everything go his way. The field was well strung out in behind and I still think this chestnut has scope off his current handicap mark over this trip. He is mega consistent and won’t need to find much more to get his head back in front.

Out Of Sight has been well backed and did produce a career best at Lingfield last time. He does need to prove himself up in trip now though and is also 4lb higher which makes life tougher. Oot Ma Way was a good second at Ayr and might be a bit overpriced.

Ripon 7.55

Another pretty average handicap that gives MR TREVOR a great chance to make it back-to-back wins. He won nicely on a softer surface at Thirsk two weeks ago and he is likely to get similar conditions on Monday evening. The time of the race is amongst the best that any of these have produced and a 3lb penalty shouldn’t stop him winning again.

Cometh The Man seems to be versatile with regards to ground and surface and his current form should see him go close here. He has gone close on the majority of runs this season making him dangerous in this race.
