NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS AT CATTERICK ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Catterick 3.35 Black Hill Storm (11/8)
Pinged the lids and was always dictating winning unchallenged at Bath last week, running on strongly; won 2 of his last 3 now and looks hard to oppose given similar tactics are likely to be adopted here.
This looks a great chance for BLACK HILL STORM to follow up and make it 3 wins from his last 4. He was fast away at Bath last time and they couldn’t live with him. He ran on strongly and didn’t face a challenge with the field well strung out. He can improve again and if he does he will have these all in trouble. Only 6 horses go to post at the time of writing so Ben Sanderson is likely to send him forward and he should take a lot of catching. I wouldn’t want to see the ground go Soft but anything better should be fine. Shamlaan won at Musselburgh on penultimate start but was held at Ripon last time and while he could still be improving too he needs more to challenge the selection.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT AYR ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Ayr 1.55 Juan Elcano (11/8)
Smart type who won well when last at this level at Ascot on reappearance in June; denied just a head in a Group 2 at York before finding Group 1 company too hot behind Mishriff last time; looks the one they all have to beat.
Euchen Glen is 3lb clear on official ratings so I can see him having his supporters but he had a tough race in the Ebor last time and it’s been a long season now given that was his eighth run. In comparison Roger Varian’s 4yo JUAN ELCANO is having just his third run since a wind op and remains lightly raced. I know things didn’t go to plan behind Mishriff at York but he was dining at the top table there (went off 40/1) and you can put a line through that. He drops down to Listed company again and he is proven at this level. He showed that beating Patrick Sarsfield at Ascot on reappearance. He could still have more to come so gets a confident vote. Maydanny might be the danger if bouncing back.
