Wolverhampton 5.30

A competitive race to kick off Wolverhampton on Tuesday night and I’m quite surprised at how short Jackstar is. This horse is on a fourteen run losing sequence and even though he has won at this track I think he is opposable given recent form. I much prefer the chances of AL ASEF for Tom Clover. This horse was a big eye-catcher weaving through beaten just a length over track and trip last month and if he builds on that I think he’ll win this. He runs off the same mark and has plenty going for him.

Rainbow Mirage and Michaels Choice head the list for the dangers. The latter wasn’t seen to best effect last time but could bounce back if taking to this surface. The former is weighted to go well but does also have a bit to prove – it’s that sort of race.

Wolverhampton 6.00

Not the most inspiring Novice Stakes with only NOTEBOOK showing much promise so far. Ray Dawson’s colt won over course and distance 2 weeks ago and has to carry a 4lb penalty as a result. He only won by a head that day but was staying on well and that was a big step-forward from debut. If he did that again or improved he should take this.

Bounce This Way could be much better than his debut suggested with a decent time for his first effort and could be the main danger of the horses with form in the book. The son of Olympic Glory, Gold Medal could be the best of the debutants but I was put off by him being gelded already.

Wolverhampton 6.30

Another competitive handicap but I think it might be worth chancing EAGLE CREEK at a price. This son of Raven’s Pass has been running well for most of the season without getting his head in front. The handicapper has eased him a further 1lb and he only went down 3 lengths at Newcastle last time. If he gets a good pace to aim at I definitely think he can get competitive off this mark.

Roman Dynasty has won at this track and ran well in the first-time cheekpieces when second at Newmarket last time. They’ve switched the cheekpieces for a visor now and if he builds on that he is the one to beat. Not a given though. Degree looks best of the rest. She has won over C&D and it’s still early days with her so definite chance.

Wolverhampton 7.00

Not a very deep race and I have it between the two jockeys fighting it out at the top of the Jockey Championship with slight preference for MYTHICAL STAR under William Buick. He improved since stepping up in trip to 6 furlongs and could be even better over this trip. His last two runs would be good enough to see him thereabouts and with improvement likely he is the one to beat.

Petal Power has shown decent form over a range of trips and clearly stays well enough after a good run at a mile last time. She is the main danger to the selection in what looks a weak field.

Wolverhampton 7.30

The money has been coming for Headora throughout the day so he is definitely feared as I do have him down in my notes as a horse that will be winning soon. He conceded first run last time and has the ability to take this out. I’ve taken a chance on EEVILYNN DREW at a bigger price though. This horse comes here in winning form with the first-time blinkers helping at Chelmsford last time. Robbert Eddery keeps them on again here and if they have the same effect I think he will go close in a winnable race.

Given the shape of the race I was going to have a saver but it was Act Naturally I quite liked and she has done nothing but drift in the betting so I left it in the end as wanted to keep stakes minimal. Dark Esteem scored over C&D in July and should also be in the mix if running to form.

Wolverhampton 7.30

Eevilynn Drew 13/2 each way

Wolverhampton 8.00

This looks to be one of the better races on the card and there are plenty with live chances. I will take a chance on FIEROSPEED over Pretty Sweet here at a much bigger price. Richard Hannon’s colt has been in great form off a pound higher and is back on the all-weather where he last won. He is actually better off at the weights with Thore Hammer Hansen taking off 3lb and he has to go close.

Pretty Sweet looks a quality horse with form of 2nd, 2nd, 1st. I just think she is a bit short considering she hasn’t run on the surface before and is down to an unknown trip. Don’t get me wrong she could romp home on handicap debut but the value seems to be with Fierospeed.

Fierospeed 9/2

Oisin Murphy and William Buick continue to go head-to-head and I think the latter has a good chance of a winner in the lucky last at Wolverhampton on Tuesday night. I don’t think VALUE TIP was seen to best effect at Brighton following his C&D win last month. He just raced too keenly that day and could never really gather his stride to hit full momentum. He was back to form over track and trip last time though, making good headway before being denied a run. He went down less than a length at the finish and if he gets a better passage through tonight he could find himself back in the winners enclosure. There is nothing wrong with his current handicap mark of 77 and he looks sure to run another big race.

Aramis Grey did well to win at Lingfield last time and is clearly in great form so looks the danger to the selection. She will need more again up 3lb though. If Ghaaliya handles the surface that would also bring her in to the mix.
