Chelmsford 5.00

I thought Vandad was overpriced in here but annoyingly he is a non runner now. With Lucky Ava also out I think it’s a good chance for CHARMING KID to win again now. This horse showed a good attitude to prevail by a nose at Wolverhampton last time and if he gets a solo on the front-end again tonight I think he’ll be hard to peg back. I know he hasn’t always backed up performances but this does look winnable and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t go close.

True Hero remains in good form with his last four starts reading 1213 so he is the obvious danger to the selection. Could argue that last run was the worst of his last four though so perhaps the handicapper is starting to take control again. At a bigger price Cuban Breeze might be a bit of value to hit the frame on debut for Micky Quinn.

Charming Kid 3/1

Chelmsford 5.30

This looks a pretty good maiden with some nice types lining up. I think Gutaifan colt HIGH VELOCITY might take a bit of beating for James Tate. I know he was beaten over 6 lengths on debut but that was an encouraging effort given the winner could be pretty smart and he was clear from the rest. He should be more streetwise now and I think it represents a good opportunity for him to get off the mark. I expect him to race prominently and he should get first run on main market rival Zoltan Star.

The latter remains a maiden but has reached a fairly decent level of form and was nearest finish last time. Amirat Alward looks a filly with potential but she failed to build on her debut run at Windsor so will need to bounce back. If she does she can give the selection something to think about. Turna has had enough chances but also needs respecting.

High Velocity 13/8

Chelmsford 6.00

Another wide open contest with plenty of these having a decent chance with ARAIFJAN getting the vote. His time figures on the all-weather look a class above with all of the top 3 held by him and the majority of the top 10. This is the highest mark he has run off for a few runs but he gets Grace McEntee’s useful 5lb claim again which saw them combine to best effect last time out at York. If in the same form he will give it a good go in his hunt for back-to-back wins.

Rebel Redemption is clearly the main danger after winning 2 of his last 3 with his last win over course and distance looking pretty impressive. He is up 5lb for that win but that may not stop him going well here. Lion Ring is also in good enough form to take a hand.

Chelmsford 6.00

Araifjan 11/2 each way

Chelmsford 6.30

Lawman filly NOTEBOOK should go close at Chelmsford on Thursday night. She caught the eye finishing third in a race that has worked out notably well at Newcastle last month. She was held up that day but the penny looked to be dropping in the closing stages as she was switched left to try and challenge before just keeping on at the one pace. It was a performance that was a little rough around the edges and if she improves from that she is going to take a lot of beating here. The second Mellow Yellow has since won at Newmarket and the fourth Fresh Hope has gone very close next time out. Even the sixth My Silent Song has won a competitive nursery so the form certainly has substance.

Mizzen You looks the danger after going down just a length at Yarmouth. That form doesn’t look to be as strong as the selection though. Two Door Saloon has looked a work in progress but should enjoy this step up in trip so is also noted.

Chelmsford 7.00

This isn’t the deepest race and with the form SKY BLUE THINKING is in it could be a good opportunity to add another win to her impressive season. She has gone up 20lb in the handicap after form of 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st and 2nd. The second last time out shows she can still be competitive off this handicap mark and if in the same form as her win over course and distance last month she will take some beating and at a surprisingly decent price.

Prospect won nicely over course and distance last time but is back at a handicap mark he has struggled at previously. In this weaker race he could still be the main danger but I can’t see him beating the selection. Liger King is also in good form at present and has to enter the reckoning in a good race.

Chelmsford 7.30

I think this is probably more open than the betting is suggesting but even so I’m keen to chance CATCH MY BREATH again. This son of Bated Breath was back to winning ways at Lingfield last month and he beat an in-form horse in He’s Our Star. The front 3 came readily clear so I think that form has substance. A 5lb penalty asks for more but on his old form he is still well treated and I think he will go close. Given his run style he’ll probably need a bit of luck as he’ll look to pass them late.

Well Prepared chased home a decent yardstick in Hooflepuff at Wolverhampton last time and if building on that he will be the danger to the favourite. Boy George remains a maiden but that’s not without trying given he has finished runner-up on all four of his last starts. May well be destined for the same fate here. Hunters Step was given a bit of a shocker last time and is better than that so also considered.

Chelmsford 7.30

Catch My Breath 11/4

Chelmsford 8.00

I had this race between PUFFIN ISLAND and Plastic Paddy who are both in good form but the former got the tentative vote. The selection has been in great form with a win over course and distance in August followed by two very close second-placed finishes (denied just a head and a neck in her last two starts). She has 5lb claimer Elisha Whittington up today which should make a big difference and I think she is the one to beat in a race like this.

Plastic Paddy will be the danger after it seemed the step up to a mile was the key to him with a nice win at Newcastle. He has a penalty for that win but is unexposed at the trip and will give the selection most to think about. Mountain Ash is also prominent in the betting with Oisin Murphy booked for the ride.

Chelmsford 8.30

There was a sense of inevitability about the way LINDWALL won at Wolverhampton last time and that was very much reflected in the betting with him being a big gamble on the day. He is looking to land a hat-trick of wins now and given he is unexposed over this trip you’d be a brave man to oppose him from this yard. I think he’ll have to improve on that last run as he was a touch workmanlike but I’m pretty sure the best is yet to come. Even at the time of writing the 6/4 is under pressure so he will probably go off a well backed favourite again.

Nibras Gold landed back-to-back wins in the summer and has held his form well the last twice. Looks the most obvious danger to this well handicapped fav. Bobby Kennedy is often backed but was a long way behind the selection last time and has work to do to close that gap.
