We’ve been with LINDWALL every step of the way and while he made hard work of it last time he did get up and win a shade cosily in the end. Things just went against him so the fact he still managed to win tells you how well handicapped he is. The extra couple of furlongs here will suit and turned out quickly under a penalty he can bring up the four-timer under Luke Morris. He is a typical improver from this yard and I don’t think he’s done yet.
Victoriano was a creditable fourth at Pontefract last time and has to enter calculations in terms of a place. Nataleena may well emerge as the danger but she’ll need an end-to-end gallop to be seen to best effect. Metal Man could have more to come yet.
Newcastle 5.30
Quite an open handicap with 3 or 4 of these in with a decent chance. GREENGAGE gets the vote after only just losing out to Khatm over course and distance at the start of the month. She gets to run off the same mark and with her great record on the all weather at this trip she won’t be far away again.
Golden Hind rates the main danger as she is on a hat-trick here after a win at Thirsk followed by a course and distance win. She is up just 2lb for that so she will be a danger to all. Like Golden Hind, Tommy R is also on a hat-trick but is penalised 5lb for that last win and may need to find a bit more here.

I can’t see NEPTUNIAN beaten here. This colt by Prince Of Lir shaped with an abundance of promise when fifth on debut. He was slowly into stride and had a lot to do but once switched left make really good headway and was staying on well at the finish beaten just over a length. That was a good race with the front pair Deodar and Witch Hunter both particularly promising. The latter found only the exciting Canonized too good when an excellent second at York at the weekend. If Martyn Meade’s colt improves as expected he will have too much class for these.
George Boughey looks to have the main danger in the shape of Foxy Rascal. This filly improved to win quite impressively at Newcastle last month but she will find this tougher under a 5lb penalty against a progressive looking colt in the selection. Espressoo wasn’t given a hard time of things when third on debut and looks best of the rest. Shamardal filly Pink Crystal is the most interesting of the newcomers so keep an eye on her in the betting.
Newcastle 6.30
Interesting race with Pocket The Profit down to run at the time of writing but it is hard to tell if he will run here after he ran on Monday at Wolverhampton (landed our Notebook). If he was to run he would have a great chance as it isn’t a deep race. Personally I don’t think he will run and I’m siding with DARK TERMS. Archie Watson’s filly bolted up at Kempton last month on her second start in handicaps. That was a big step forward and the way she won suggests there is plenty more to come so she will be the one to beat even if she is up 9lb.
Raydoun has good time figures over 6 furlongs and his last run on the all weather suggests he goes well on the surface and could have a bit of juice in his handicap mark. He is the main danger in a trappy race. Kingofhell is also worth a second look on handicap debut.
Newcastle 7.00
The money is coming for VARIETY ISLAND and it’s easy to see why. This colt improved a chunk from his first 3 runs to make a winning handicap debut over C&D 11 days ago, staying on strongly in the closing stages. The handicapper has reacted with a 7lb rise but the way he won that he has scope to kick on again and gets a confident vote here. There is plenty of pace on with Kendred Fire and Rhinoplasty likely to push forward and that should help the selection drop his head early before looking to pick them off in the closing stages.
Beauzon is the closest in the market but I’m quite surprised at that as he was well held when fourth at Wolverhampton last time and needs to do more. He’s been eased another 1lb but I think he might need more help from the assessor if he is to get back in the winners enclosure. She’s The Danger won over C&D in August and while she wasn’t seen to best effect last time she could do better here back down in trip.
Newcastle 7.30
In an open race I am going to take a chance on CROWNTHORPE to bounce back. He is usually very good over course and distance but hasn’t been in the best of form on his last 3 runs. The handicapper has given him a real chance here dropping him down to a mark of 81. He went close at the track off a mark of 87 plus he won off 90 last season so is in with an each way chance here.
There are plenty of dangers with the main one looking like Cosmos Raj who is in great from (1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd) and won’t be far away off the same mark. Of the rest Soaring Star is only up a pound for winning over course and distance last month and should also go well.
Newcastle 8.00
The William Haggas-trained Substantial has been backed into favouritism for this now. He was only sixth on debut though and that doesn’t look overly strong form so I think he might have been a bit overbet. Top Table failed to get the job done at Wolverhampton last time but did bump into a nice looking filly in Dubai Hope. I think she should be fav but even so I’m going to take a chance on ORIGINATOR or Marcus Tregoning. This New Approach colt clocked quite a good speed figure in defeat on debut at Ffos Las and if he improves he can get involved here. He is certainly bred to be pretty useful so worth chancing.
Of the rest Baltic Coast showed promise when second at Pontefract but he did carry his head a bit awkwardly and is going to need to leave that behind to trouble these as it looks quite a hot maiden potentially. Old Dixie cost $100,000 as a yearling but is likely to need this first outing for Kevin Ryan.
Newcastle 8.30
The maximum of 14 runners set to go to post in the last on Tuesday night in a wide open affair. CAPTAIN VALLO came second over course and distance last month on his first run on the all weather. He is in great form and likely has scope for improvement on the surface. Ryan Sexton takes off 7lb which will make a big difference plus he was only raised 1lb for his second placed finish. If in the same form he will have a great chance of taking the lucky last.
Singe Anglais won last time out and is the likely danger to the selection if in the same vein of form. Of the rest Jordan Electrics and Mutanaaseq could fill the places. Spartan Fighter is fairly prominent in the betting but he needs more to get competitive.
