Taunton 12.55

I think as long as JAY JAY REILLY doesn’t face too much pace pressure early here he should have too much. I’m not all that concerned by the 7lb penalty as he won with plenty in hand at Kempton but it’s more how the race will pan out. If Bridget Andrews manages to get him out in front jumping well he will take a lot of pegging back again. He is open to further improvement given that was just his second start over hurdles last time and he gets a confident vote to come out on top.

Earth Company ran well when third to Knappers Hill at Wincanton last time and if he comes on from that he will pose the biggest threat to the favourite. Gala De Corton had no answers to stablemate Knappers Hill in the same race Earth Company finished third in so looks best of the rest.

None of these are particularly in-form but it is all about potential here. NELSONS ROCK looks like he wants a longer trip and could find plenty of improvement tackling 3 miles on his handicap debut. His point-to-point form over 3 miles was solid (2 wins) and he looked better last time in a race behind Knappers Hill. If improving for the trip he is the one to beat and 9/4 looks very appealing. He probably raced a bit too prominent last time so it won’t surprise me if Harry Kimber gives him a more patient ride.

It is hard to pick a danger is such a trappy race but we know Just A Whim stays and if ready to roll could be dangerous. Carrying top weight won’t be easy for her though. Famoso also looks worth another chance so is respected too. Young O’Leary is unexposed but should come on for the run.

Taunton 1.55

This should be a good race with all 5 in with a shout. Catch The Cuban deserved that last time but Heronord did unseat when coming through with a strong challenge so the race fell apart a bit. He is up 4lb and this is tougher so I’m keen to oppose. ROQUE IT makes much more appeal for Paul Nicholls. I thought that was a good run when third at Worcester and if he takes to this discipline he could take a bit of beating. Harry Cobden is likely to have him off the pace so hopefully one or two take each other on early.

Caspers Court has shown enough chasing to think he’ll get competitive here but I can see Eragon De Chanay posing the greatest threat. He is down to a good looking mark and shaped better in a decent race at Wincanton last time so is definitely feared. Landsman is the outsider but isn’t entirely ruled out on the pick of his efforts.

Taunton 2.25

Guernesey ran a cracker when denied just a short head at Warwick last week but I thought he did everything right and still didn’t come away with the prize so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was in the handicappers grip at least for now. He should go well but I much prefer the progressive VALUE TIP for Jonjo O’Neill. He readily completed the five-timer at Exeter last month and he was strong in the betting before unseating at the first at Cheltenham last time. I’m more than willing to forgive that and this looks a good chance for him to quickly bounce back.

Mister Allegro should put good pace to the race and I think he’ll just track him round before proving the stronger at the finish. Dargiannini won 2 from 3 over hurdles for Harry Whittington and still retains potential even after pulling up in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow on return. Opening Bid is running well but is perhaps open to a more progressive horse and the selection fits the bill.

Taunton 2.55

Inevitably Marilyn Monroe did come out after finishing lame yesterday. I did say I liked Duc Kauto if she was a non runner and guess what? He is out now too! I’m keen to oppose Kiera Royale and I think ROBADDAN looks the better value. This son of Flemensfirth has also PPP next to his name right now but he is down in the weights as a result and a mark of 98 should be hugely lenient if he can bounce back. He was never on terms at Lingfield on return and raced too keenly so should come on plenty from that.

Go Pharisee Flyer could easily be the main danger. He also pulled up when last seen at Exeter in March but this is a weak race so going chasing for the first time if he improves he could easily land a blow here. Majority of this field have something or other to prove so might be a good time to go and make a cuppa.

Taunton 3.25

This looks like a wide open race bar the favourite NORLEY. He has won his last two with relative ease and goes well at this trip. His latest run was especially impressive winning by 8 lengths and gets to run off 1lb lower before the handicapper looks to put him up. He is so well in it would be disappointing if he got beat here. He is 11/10 at the time of writing but I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t go off odds-on come post time.

The main danger could well be Kendelu who looks versatile with regard to trip and his recent form would be good enough to see him reach the frame. Of the rest Akkapenko scored at Uttoxeter last time but up 7lb asks a lot more here especially against a progressive horse in the favourite. Alberic showed more last time but this is tougher again so he’ll also need to pull out more to get seriously competitive.
