Cheltenham 12.05

This looks a good race with the front 3 all potentially nice horses. I was quite taken with the way NOTEBOOK won at Warwick though and given the yard have been making good noises about him it was a performance to note. He looked to have gears and quickly left them standing away from the last to win impressively. He will need to improve to win this but there should be lots more to come yet and I’m keen to keep on the right side of him today and going forward.

Washington looked good winning at Bangor and ran a very good race in defeat when beaten 2 lengths in a Grade 2 here last time. He sets a good standard but if the selection is as good as I hope he is I think he can improve past him. Jpr One also deserves a mention as he impressed at Exeter and will step forward from that but he is more of a chasing type I think and might be done for speed.

Cheltenham 12.40

This looks a fairly open contest with J’AI FROID looking a big each way price on his form from last season. After his seasonal debut he won 4 in a row before a second in a very good handicap at Aintree. Like last season he didn’t run to his best on reappearance and should be a lot better for the run. He was dropped 4lb for that which seems a lot if he needed it and should outrun his odds.

Coeur Serein is the main danger if bouncing back from his fall on chase debut. He put up some very good form figures last season and if back in form will go very well. Of the rest Corach Rambler won easily at Aintree last month and if in the same form will go well even with the extra 7lb from the handicapper.

Cheltenham 12.40

J’Ai Froid 11/1 each way

Cheltenham 1.15

Nicky Henderson hasn’t won this since back in 2009 when Spirit River went in at 11/4 so he’ll be keen to get his hands on the prize and he does look to have a good chance this year in the shape of BROOMFIELD BURG. I know he was turned over at short odds at Newbury but the winner Silent Revolution looks a nice horse and he should strip a lot fitter from that. He is still learning and improving and looks the one to beat in this field.

Quinta Do Mar is a likeable type who arrives on a hat-trick so he is probably the danger. A 6lb rise does require more though especially against the potential of the favourite. Punxsutawney Phil is well regarded by his trainer and is better than what he showed when fourth here behind Gowel Road last month.

Cheltenham 1.15

Broomfield Burg 5/2

Cheltenham 1.50

This looks like a quality renewal of this Mares’ Handicap and TIMELESS BEAUTY looks a nice price considering how well she ran on on her seasonal debut after a wind op. She won comfortably at Lingfield last month and you expect her to be much improved for the run. She is up 6lb for the win but seems more than capable of shouldering that penalty if in the same form.

Fontaine Collonges won a similar event last month with a bit in hand. She will need to be in the same form to go in again with a 7lb penalty as I feel the selection has more scope for improvement.

Bangor 2.05

This is a trappy race so no real strong opinion but TEDHAM could take a bit of beating. His recent form figures are concerning with two P’s next to his name but back over hurdles here with that Wetherby run behind him it wouldn’t surprise me if he bounces back off a mark of just 118. It will be interesting to see what the market makes of him come post time and I’ll be more reassured if there is some money for him.

Happy Hollow was a good second at Hexham when last seen in October and looks one of the dangers on form. Paricolor is also in decent heart and has to be considered.

Cheltenham 2.25

It was a shame to see ENRILO take a tumble in the Ladbrokes Trophy on return at Newbury. He was shaping well and given his previous form was progressive over fences if he can put in a clear round here he is going to go close. This is no given but I think he has the most potential of these coming into it and I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t win barring errors.

Commodore often needs everything to drop right but does go fairly well fresh and his yard are firing so he could get involved. Mister Fogpatches has stamina in abundance and ran well again when third to Run Wild Fred in the Troytown so could be a danger too.

Cheltenham 3.00

Compared to quite a few runnings of this race there isn’t really a main horse they all have to beat. It makes for a really competitive race. DIESEL D’ALLIER and Back On The Lash met here last month over course and distance with the latter winning and the selection finishing third. That was Diesel D’Allier’s first run of the season so to run such a big race it was pretty impressive. He should have plenty more to come as he loves it over course and distance and I think he will go very well again.

Back On The Lash is up 3lb for the win and had the fitness edge going into the last race. He will be a big danger again but the selection should be able to reverse the form. Midnight Maestro is the marginal favourite at the time of writing as his owners and trainers have a great record in this race but he may have a bit to prove.

Cheltenham 3.35

This very much revolves around SPORTING JOHN and given he is likely to improve from that win here last month he is hard to get away from. He is a classy individual and he went up through the gears impressively to beat Onagatheringstorm last time. The handicapper has reacted raising him 5lb but that shouldn’t be enough to stop him and he is by far and away the most likely winner for me.

Botox Has goes up in trip after disappointing here last time and needs to bounce back to land a blow. The Wrekin won three times over hurdles last season and didn’t shape badly behind Art Approval last month so might emerge as the main danger to the selection but does need to improve.
