Race 4 Belmont 9.42 Soviet Spy (6/5)

Ran well to finish second considering he was slowly away at Pinjarra last month; this easier and likely to build on that so big chance of going one better if breaking cleanly; extra yardage looks firmly in his favour.

The Aussie NAP won overnight so we head to Belmont on Wednesday as we look to record back-to-back wins. SOVIET SPY ran well in defeat last time and given this is easier it looks a good opportunity for him to get himself back in the winners enclosure. He is building a nice profile with a win and 3 seconds from just 8 starts and could be progressive. Ima Sly Fox is a decent yardstick but he was second last at Ascot last time and has a bit to prove off the back of that. Hoist The Colours made the breakthrough at Narrogin but definitely needs more against the top 2 in the betting here. Xcavate best of the rest but she does look vulnerable for win purposes with just the 1 victory from 20 starts now.

Race 3 Devonport 2.27 Alpine Blast (6/4)

Improving type who ran on well from off the pace to win over track and trip last month, hitting the line in command; form stacks up and with the promise of more to come he looks well placed to follow up; take the beating.

We head to Devonport overnight for our second best bet Down Under and ALPINE BLAST looks the one to beat for John Blacker. He made the breakthrough last time and is certainly trending the right way now. He has a low gate and is hard to pick holes in. Deep Knead is unexposed and got off the mark here last time so that brings him right into the reckoning. Ashmania has a similar profile having won here on debut but she was down the field last time and will definitely need to leave that behind to have a say in the outcome here. Ubriaco chased home The Beekeeper over C&D last time and a similar run might have him in the money again. Bynance could go well but hasn’t been seen since October.
