NAP – Best selection of the evening
Lingfield 2.15 Tone The Barone (1/1)
Likeable type who impressed on return to win over this trip at Wolverhampton last month, winning well despite having pulled hard; 6lb rise but good opportunity to follow up; jockey Marco Ghiani in good form too.
The NAP was back in the winners enclosure yesterday so that’s 3 winners and 3 losers for 2022 so far. Hopefully we can tilt the balance our way on Friday as we stick with the likeable TONE THE BARONE at Lingfield. This horse has a cracking strike rate with 10 wins from 24 runs and arguably produced a career best last time. He is up 6lb but connections have found a suitable race for him to follow up in and I think he’ll take all the beating. He is proven over track and trip and is hard to pick holes in. Strong Power improved to win over C&D last time but this is a tough ask some 14lb out the handicap. That leaves Marnie James as the most obvious danger but he is on a long losing run so definitely needs more.

Wolverhampton 5.00 Impulsive One (1/1)
Clocked some good form on the Flat before going hurdling and winning twice; beaten a length in a good race over timber at Doncaster last month; fit from that and should take all the beating back on the level.
I thought Three Platoon would win at Newcastle earlier in the week but he looked undone by a tactical affair and given there are only 5 runners heading to post for this he isn’t certain to get the pace he needs here either. I think he is opposable and that makes IMPULSIVE ONE a standout for Nicky Henderson. This horse did well over hurdles and his Flat form prior to that was quite good so with more to offer he can make a winning return on the level. He will be fit from that Doncaster run and looks handicapped to strike to me. Chipiron has won over this C&D so has to be noted too but he might just lack the class of the front pair here and may always be struggling to contain them.
